The Best of the Best Award for Volunteerism

The Guaranteed Rate Foundation is proud to honor Mark Shippie, a dedicated and beloved employee who lost his battle with ALS in March 2015.

Mark spent hours volunteering with children at the Shriners Hospital Burn Center in Boston. The Mark Shippie Best of the Best Award for Volunteerism recognizes Guaranteed Rate employees who go above and beyond to make a positive impact in their community and in the lives of others. Employees are nominated and selected based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrate significant contributions to the local community through volunteering
  • Selflessly and consistently go out of their way to give back to others
  • Donate time as the core of their personal philanthropy, not monetary contributions
Mark Shippie Best of the Best Award for Volunteerism honorees:

Tina Bauserman

Tina is a certified mentor at Hope Academy in Denver, a school for victims of sex trafficking. Hope Academy helps victims earn GEDs or high school diplomas, helps them find employment and teaches them critical life skills such as personal budgeting. Most of the students at Hope Academy have not had positive role models in their lives. Mentors like Tina offer encouragement and guidance as they work to complete their education and build self-reliance.

In addition to her work at Hope Academy, Tina has traveled the globe in her mission to raise awareness and fight for social justice on behalf of exploited and powerless women and children. Most recently, she went to San Jose, Costa Rica, where she conducted workshops to help at-risk women become more independent and self-sufficient. On a recent trip to India, Tina and her daughter volunteered at an orphanage for single mothers. The orphanage provides housing, education and care for the children as well as classes for their mothers to help them learn trade skills to support their families. She has also visited Sierra Leone, Mexico and the Dominican Republic on humanitarian missions.

Tina also spends time as an Ambassador for the Highlands Ranch Chamber of Commerce to assist with charitable fundraising and networking.
