“Bill Rayman and his team were amazing. As first time buyers, my husband and I didn't know a thing about mortgages. Bill was honest and he patiently spent hours with me on the phone helping me to understand our options and what type of loan would be best for us at this time in our lives. Bill and his team worked double time over the holiday weekend, getting us a lower interest rate in the process. Even my real estate agent had never seen such great work. Thank you Bill and your team for...

Ozan E. -- Inglewood CA 5/28/2014

Bill was great to work with! He was very prompt in his responses to our questions and his responses were very detailed.

Stefan A. -- Tujunga CA 5/28/2014

Overall, I would definitely recommend this Bill to anyone I know, looking for a home mortgage. Especially to someone that might not be experienced with the process. I would imagine getting a home loan without a broker would be complicated or troubling.

Ardith N. -- Los Angeles CA 1/30/2015

Bill is exceptional. He helps me through a very stressful item with patience and clarity.

Melanie B - Los Angeles, CA | Feb. 2016

Bill was super professional, clear, honest and logical throughout the entire escrow period. He was available to speak with anyone about the loan which made the deal close on a timely manner.

About Bill

After graduating from Yale University as a Chemistry major, Bill received his MBA from NYU Business School, followed by a year of advanced study at the Wharton Graduate School of Business. Joining the financial industry was expected. What was unanticipated was how fun and rewarding the mortgage business can be. Helping people understand their options so they can make informed decisions is a daily delight.

Along with guiding his friends and clients, Bill has taught innumerable people via seminars and lunch-and-learns at colleges and schools, business groups, corporations and major law firms. More than 18,000 people read his blog each month and heýs earned stellar reviews on Yelp! In recognition of his stature in the field, in 2014 Americaýs Top10 named him the ý#1 Mortgage Broker in Los Angelesý.

This enthusiasm to provide service led to his becoming involved in philanthropic enterprises such as Rotary Club and Friends of the LA River. Many weekends, he and his licensed therapy dog, Ptaxi!, visit assisted living facilities.

For fun, he enjoys experiencing the worldýs cultures and geography. Heýs visited 89 countries, yet feels heýs barely scratched the earthýs surface. Passionate about scuba diving, he carries his dive mask everywhere. True, it wasnýt very useful hiking the Scottish highlands, cycling through Siem Rep or riding horseback in the Sahara, but you never knowý

Bill grew up in Scarsdale, New York amid a household of critters and siblings. He enjoys living in Santa Monica with his wife, the lovely Belle, and her large brood of sisters, parents, in-laws and expanding collection of nieces and nephews. Despite 23 years here, itýs still, ýGo Yankees!ý

ýGo Knicks!ý (Someday!!!)

Bill interview Q&A

How long have you been in the mortgage business? What awards have you won?
I joined the industry in 2005. In 2014, America's Top10 named me "#1 Mortgage Broker in Los Angeles".
Tell us about a specific challenging borrowing situation and how you got the mortgage closed and funded.
An Army Veteran returning from 2 tours in Iraq was stymied from buying a home due to a short sale he had previous. He joked that Iraq was a cakewalk compared to getting a loan. I investigated the circumstances and provided a detailed explanation to the underwriters which put that transaction in the right perspective, then persevered for weeks until the lender agreed to help him buy a new home. Never did I doubt that this is exactly the type of person we need to go the extra mile for.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
Forewarned is forearmed. Start preparing early. Check credit. File taxes. Gather documents. Accumulate funds or sources of funds. Mostly: talk to an informative mortgage broker (not a retail banker.)
Are you active in any local associations or community groups, and at what level? What goals and/or success have you helped these groups achieve?
I'm active in the Santa Monica Rotary Club, and serve as Co-Chair of the Environment Committee. We work in association with FOLAR, the Friends of the Los Angeles River raising awareness of it's endangered condition, and organizing periodic river and beach clean-ups.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
Wacky? I was the Ear Muff king of America, a successful movie screenwriter, and a professional snake handler in Thailand.
