Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
There are no 'typical' customers any longer in the home financing world which is really where a good loan officer can provide value to our clients. We can listen to your goals/objectives that you have for your mortgage and provide options for you to decide what is best. Whether it is a first-time home buyer or a retired couple looking to downsize, the needs change and so do the available financing options. Some of the most rewarding experiences are when you see the 'light click on' for a client and you know they have found the perfect financing solution for them.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
Clique, I know, but Knowledge is Power- With every home toured, homebuyers learn things including 'likes', 'dislikes', 'price points', etc. that will ultimately shape their mind to recognize the perfect home. Taking a quick minute to talk through the Mortgage PreApproval and discuss the mortgage process is very similar to attending all those showings. A quality initial mortgage conversation can help avoid those scary home-buying myths, create a competitive advantage in advance of a multiple bid situation and/or set the foundation for a smooth home buying process. Even if buying is 12 months away, its never too early to start learning about the process.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
The clients that truly enjoy the process and can even put themselves in a position for better mortgage terms are those that are responsive, engaged and open. We will do our best to get the loan to the finish line while trying to avoid duplicate or unneeded documentation. If there is a request, the quicker we can get a response or the information the absolute better it is for the process, experience and outcome.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
Outside of the office you can find me helping my wife on home projects, on the 606 Trail or traveling for family events. My wife and I come from large families and a free weekend can quickly be filled.
