How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage business for a total of 12 years. I truly enjoy working with first time homebuyers, but have a great deal of experience with both first timers as well as seasoned buyers. I was inspired to get into the mortgage business because I think buying a home is the biggest purchase one makes in his/her life and it\'s imperative that he or she works with someone that pays particular attention to detail and can guide him/her through the process. In addition to the purchase side, refinance transactions have been at an all time high due to low rates and special programs available. I have helped many, many people save money on their mortgage through the refinance transaction. I love knowing that I can assist in lowering peoples\' rates and in turn, save them money.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
My advice I would give to first time homebuyers is talk to a mortgage lender PRIOR to starting your home search! It is crucial that you know exactly what you CAN afford, and what you WANT to afford (yes, there is a difference!). Don\'t waste your time - by locking up a mortgage and getting pre-approved first, you are able to jump in head first and really get a feel of what\'s available in your price range. Also, be sure that you are comfortable with your lender. Be sure they are easily accessible, are able to answer all of your questions, and they guide you along the process from pre-approval to the closing.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
To ensure a smooth mortgage process, the lender and the borrower both need to get everything done up front. The lender needs to request all supporting documentation up front. The more complete a file is in the beginning, the less the lender will request at the end. We all know that the mortgage process can be a little trying these days, as lenders are requiring more and more paperwork. The process will be much more seamless if the borrower is not bombarded with a ton requests a week before the closing! It is inevitable that some paperwork will not be available until later in the process, but give what you can up front. That will help!
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
When I\'m not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our 3 little boys - they keep me very busy! I also enjoy running along the lakefront and participating in races throughout the city. My husband and I were born and raised in the Chicago area and we love all that Chicago has to offer: street festivals, Wrigley Field and all of the amazing restaurants - just to name a few!
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
When we have some free time, my husband and I plan to travel the country in an RV with our boys and dog. We can\'t wait to explore and give this kind of opportunity to our boys (and to us)!
