How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage industry since late 2003. I have always enjoyed helping people and the idea of assisting someone with their biggest financial purchase was my main motivation.
Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
There are no “typical” customers. Every customer has their own unique situation. My past customers have chosen to work with me because of the individualized attention I put forth in finding them a unique solution.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
The best home loan is one that compliments each customer's budget, lifestyle, short and long-term plans for the home, and overall financial goals. A discussion into these areas helps to reveal the optimum mortgage solution unique to each of my customers.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
First time home buyers have many questions, and they should be working with partners in the process that are willing to answer them all! Buying your first home is such an amazing accomplishment and should be navigated with expert guidance, advice, and patience.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
The documentation gathering process is almost always the most difficult for customers. There are a lot of papers that an underwriter will want to review. Depending on the circumstances, many customers find that they need to supply additional documentation. The important thing to remember is that this is important to the process and obtaining this information quickly and concisely will ease the time spent in underwriting. The customers who spend the time to organize and collect all requested documentation normally find themselves closing first.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
There are two key ways to ensure a smooth underwriting process. The first is to be thorough. Spending a few extra minutes to validate all requested documents are complete when submitted saves time later on in the process. Secondly, borrowers should not change anything about their finances while going through the mortgage process. Buying big ticket items on credit while getting a mortgage can be a real impediment to success; likewise, seemingly harmless tasks like transferring money between accounts can require additional time in underwriting.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
Receiving gratitude from my clients is the ultimate reward.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I am a natural lefty and do everything left-handed except golf. I am a better golfer when I golf right-handed.
