How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage industry for just about 6 years now. Brian Decker inspired me to join the mortgage world and I consider him a very good friend and mentor.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
We have had many first time home buyers come to us and say that they were pressured to contact us by a friend, family member, realtor, etc. and that they are very hesitant to start the approval process because they do not think they will qualify. We have some great down payment assistance programs and other loan programs that are perfect for first time home buyers and many are surprised to hear about them. I urge all first time home buyers to reach out so we can answer any questions and go over the different options available to them so they can stop throwing away money on rent. :)
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
I have found that responsive borrowers tend to have the smoothest underwriting processes. I would urge all borrowers to try and get any requested documents back within a 24 hour period in order to ensure a quick and smooth underwriting process. It makes the process easier on all parties involved, and ultimately helps the borrower get the process completed quicker.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I am an avid golfer. Please do not get that confused with a "good" golfer. :) It is a sport where there is always room for improvement and I enjoy the challenge of getting better all the time!
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I have an obsession with dress socks. I wear a brand called Happy Socks which come in all kinds of funky colors and designs. They are a great conversation starter and add a little fun to the standard work attire. :)
