How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage industry for over 27 years, and owned a mortgage company for 20 years prior to joining Guaranteed Rate. Customer service has always been my number one priority. I feel honored having been named one of the top originators in America by Mortgage Originator Magazine.
What are the pros and cons of a fixed rate mortgage versus an adjustable rate mortgage (ARM)?
The advantage of a fixed rate loan is just that- it's fixed; the payments will never adjust. The fixed rate makes it much easier to budget your finances knowing the payment will stay the same for the life of the loan. However, if you are planning on staying in your home for only a few years, an ARM may be a better choice because the adjustable rates are usually lower than that of the fixed rate. If you know that you are going to be in a home for less than 5 years, a 5 year ARM could give you a lower rate than a 30 year fixed rate.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
It is very important for the borrower to provide all of the loan documentation requested in a timely manner. It is also important that the borrowers are informed in the beginning that no new credit should be acquired during the application process. In regards to asset accounts, it should be noted early on that any deposits into those accounts that are not payroll direct deposit will need to be verified. This tends to be one the biggest issues that comes up when a loan goes into underwriting.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
I love helping people. Whether it is getting a first time buyer into his/her first home, helping a client save some money, or a refinance- all of those accomplishments feel great for the both of us.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
Along with being a mortgage broker, I like to travel, go to the gym and enjoy boating and fine wine.
