How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I got into the mortgage business in 2005. My father was a realtor in California and growing up around this amazing profession made me want to be a part of helping people buy a home as well.
Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
I work with clients in both Idaho and California. I have helped everyone including writers, actors and directors to carpenters and tile setters. I have done loans for teachers, doctors and engineers and I especially enjoy helping entrepreneurs who own their own business. I basically want to help everyone. No matter the occupation, the question I get most often is how big of a loan can I qualify for and what is my payment.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
Get in front of a loan professional as soon as possible. Take the time to go over your credit and get your finances in order before you look at houses. You want to know your monthly payment range, down payment and closing costs before you start looking. Having a loan officer that you can call on a Saturday or a Sunday is a wonderful thing as well.
Tell us about a mortgage product that consumers may not be aware of?
There are fabulous down payment assistance programs, grants and 2nd mortgages through local housing agencies that allow buyers to come in with very little money to buy a home. These programs are available to everyone, not just first-time home buyers.
What 2 or 3 mobile apps would you recommend for home buyers or house hunters, and why? What Smart Apps do you recommend your customers use for the house hunting process?
The app I recommend to all my clients is Home Scouting. Home Scouting is a professional-grade MLS property search app that is private and secure. There is NO advertising or SPAM. Just download and use my VIP Code for access: matt
Summary of where you grew up: family, affiliations, college, high school, etc.
I grew up in San Jose, CA and went to college at UCLA. My family and I have called Boise, ID home since 2008.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I love to mountain bike and trail run in the Boise foothills and during winter I snowboard with my kids as much as possible.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I like to watch cooking shows, but I rarely cook. My lack of talent in the kitchen usually relegates me to doing the dishes.
