What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
Myself and our team take the mortgage loan process very seriously. No detail about your financial situation is too small. We complete a full review of your assets, credit and income. Then we plan a 45+ minute in depth conversation about yourself, your financial goals (both short and long term), and what your plans for the property may be over the next 10 years. We call it your loan consultation. We have found over the last 15 years that this is most effective way to communicate financing recommendations and discuss your qualification.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
A large number of our clients are new or first time buyers. In some cases, itýs been several years since the last time they purchased a home and it can feel like the first time all over again. My best advice to them is, "No question or thought is too small or inconsequential". As a home will be the biggest purchase of your life, we want to make sure you are as comfortable with the process as possible; from the home search, through negotiations, and all the way to closing. We commit to three basic things: we will close you accurately, on time and with lots of communication. This means we commit to the numbers upfront, no bait and switch. We also commit to all closing timelines upfront. Finally, every week we will proactively reach out to you and update you on the status of your file.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
I believe there are several "Mortgage Myths" that are passed down from either friends or family that can sometimes prevent clients from making the best financial decision about their home purchase or loan. The first being, "We have to take a 30 year fixed product". There are so many different loan options available on the market and clients (outside of our clients) rarely take an educated look at what may be available to them. The second most common is, "I canýt buy now, because I donýt have enough down payment". We have products that can allow you to purchase a home with as little as 1% down. Finally, I always get the "I donýt think my credit is good enough". We have loan products that can go as low as 580 on the credit score. This is what separates my team from my other peers. We take the time to explain all of the options during a face-to-face consultation with our client.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
I have been in this industry for almost 10 years. I have come to find the most satisfaction I receive out of my job is when a client comes up to me afterwards and says "Thank you for taking the time to walk me through this process". I can see or hear the joy from getting the keys to their new home and it makes all the work and long hours absolutely worth it. Then they entrust myself and my team enough to recommend us to their friends and family. Nothing says, "I appreciate you" more than sending over the people they care about to our team.
