What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I like to take a minute to interview my clients regarding their personal financial goals before recommending a mortgage product. Someone that wants to pay off their mortgage at an accelerated rate is going to require a different product than someone that is looking to keep their monthly payment as low as possible. A mortgage can be an asset if the correct product is chosen for the situation or it can be a burden if not properly tailored to suit one's needs.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
I highly recommend that first time home buyers sit down with a mortgage professional before they fall in love with a home. Properly establishing your pre-qualification is the only way to ensure you find a home that suits your needs and budget while making way for a smooth transaction.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
Ben Franklin said it best with "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". Our processors do a great job early in the process of making a comprehensive checklist of required documents. Obtaining everything up front, taking the time to understand what is on that checklist, and providing each item in its entirety will make for a calm enjoyable experience.
Are you active in any fundraising organizations? What goals and/or success have you helped them achieve?
Andrew's Helpful Hands is a charity based in my hometown of Hudson, Massachusetts. Andrew's Helpful Hands assists families of children undergoing bone marrow transplants by making their mortgage or rent payments for them while their child undergoes treatment. Bone marrow transplants are a financial commitment just as a mortgage is, and by doing this it allows the family to focus on treatment and recovery not working overtime to meet both commitments. Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I am not sure what this says about my early childhood development, but I learned my ABCs backwards before I learned them forwards... My wife attributes a lot of my personality traits to the fact I was the only kid singing my ZYXs.
