About Randy

Randy has been working in the mortgage loan industry for over 22 years. He began his career after completing his education at California State University Northridge. Randy joined United Pacific Mortgage in the mid 90ýs and because of his extensive background in all phases of the mortgage industry; he became one of the top producers in the company. He had made the 'Pacific Club' each year and had been awarded for: Top Unit Originator and Closer, and Top Dollar Originator and Closer. UPM was sold to Countrywide in mid-2007 and Randy spent the next few years searching for a company that was ýUPM-likeý. Guaranteed Rate was his choice. For the last 22 years, Randy has concentrated his considerable talents on helping his clients obtain loans for the purchase or refinance of residential property. Randy's goal is to obtain for every client the best loan for their situation. His close attention to detail consistently results in satisfied clients, who are always pleased with their home financing experience. Randy and his wife Amber have 3 kids and reside in the city of Calabasas. His hobbies are family activities, baseball and golf.

How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
22+ years. My need to serve others drew me to this profession
Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
Kind, hard working people who want to know that they are being treated fairly. They (mostly) want to learn about our process. There is no question too small for me.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I interview them and learn their short and long-term wants and needs
How long have you been in the mortgage business? What awards have you won?
22+ years. One of the top producers in every company I have worked for.
What are the pros and cons of a fixed rate mortgage versus an adjustable rate mortgage (ARM)?
The pro is the rate and payment will never change. It's gamble free. The con is that if the market goes down, the ARM rate follows suit. ARM's are the exact opposite.
Tell us about a specific challenging borrowing situation and how you got the mortgage closed and funded.
I had a borrower who made his living as a short-term note holder for builder loans. He didn't fit the guidelines of 3 years remaining on the notes. I was able to able to earn an exception through one of our investors and close the loan.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
Don't max out your affordability. Work your way up.
Tell us about a mortgage product that consumers may not be aware of?
Stated income loans have returned to the marketplace. The loan offers the self-employed borrower an option they may not otherwise have in today's world.
How has the mortgage industry changed since you started, and what would you expect in the future?
The industry pendulum has swung wildly from far too liberal to far too conservative in how loans are underwritten and what is required of the borrower. Who knows what the future holds? I hope we will return to "make sense" lending.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
The amount of paperwork involved. The items that we require of a borrower is excessive. I prefer to let them know ahead of time what the process entails so there are few surprises.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
1. No one is lending money. 2. It takes too long 3. We are all liars
What 2 or 3 mobile apps would you recommend for home buyers or house hunters, and why? What Smart Apps do you recommend your customers use for the house hunting process?

What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
I send out a "what to expect" letter that walks them through the process.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
Read my letter, follow my needs list and stay patient
Are you active in any local associations or community groups, and at what level? What goals and/or success have you helped these groups achieve?
Full time dad to 3 crazy kids under 17. Who has time for anything else?

I was born in Van Nuys. I grew up in Encino. I went to Birmingham H.S. and CSUN for college.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
I LOVE to help and serve others! If I can be a small part of something that helps or makes someone happy....count me in!
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I love to watch my kids do the things they love (sports, theatre). I am madly in love with my wife, Amber. Any free moment with her is the ultimate heaven for me. I love the Dodgers. We are season ticket holders and all of us bleed blue!!!
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I have 10 toes.....all on 1 foot! That's not true. I am a man who loves his family and career but doesn't take himself too seriously (and loves to talk about himself in the 3rd person)! :)
