About Ryan

I started in the mortgage business in March of 2007 with Guaranteed Rate in Chicago. My wife and I moved to Denver at the end of 2012 and could not be happier with our decision. I have always enjoyed developing new relationships with clients, and working to provide them with the best service to meet their financing needs. How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in banking since college and transitioned into the mortgage industry over 9 years ago, after my move to Chicago from Los Angeles.
Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
I work with a variety of different home buyers, from first time home buyers to the savvy investor. More than anything, the borrowers have heard of a scary loan process but it does not have to be. We ensure a smooth and efficient process from start to finish.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
Each customer is in a different situation. Their goals and their 5-10 year plan vary, which changes the best loan instrument that I would suggest. I listen to what they want and give the best options available along with other options they may not have been aware of or thought of.
How long have you been in the mortgage business? What awards have you won?

Tell us about a specific challenging borrowing situation and how you got the mortgage closed and funded.
I had a borrower who switched jobs without letting anyone know on the day of closing. We had to resubmit everything back to the underwriter, qualifying the husband and wife with just one income. We were still able to close the same day. Unheard of in most lending institutions.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
For first time home buyers, it is important to ask questions. This is a brand new process for you and there is a lot of information to process. Make sure you feel comfortable and knowledgeable about the loan programs that are available whether it is for an adjustable rate mortgage (ARM), fixed rate loan, FHA, 203k, or VA mortgage. Feeling comfortable with the loan process, timeline, and costs associated with each mortgage program will make it that much less stressful. It is a happy time and having the knowledge about what you are buying into, is just as important as moving in.
Tell us about a mortgage product that consumers may not be aware of?
Jumbo programs with less than 20% down. We have some great options with as little as 10% down with no mortgage insurance.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
Understanding the reasoning for some of the documentation that is requested. The required documentation has changed and become more detailed over the past five years. The items that are requested are to ensure we have a smooth process without having to come back multiple times to request more.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
The 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process are: that it is stressful, time consuming, and costly. All of these are easily avoidable. The home loan process should not be stressful. The process should be efficient and very smooth. More than likely, you are putting yourself into a position you want to be in. It should be an exciting process to complete which goes hand and with the time consuming. Being in the industry over the last 6 years, I have seen many changes. Not only have the requirements changed, the documentation has as well. It is important to be proactive when items are requested to ensure no unnecessary delays. On my end, it is important to set correct expectations. Being a direct lender, we do not outsource any part of the loan process. This creates higher efficiency and quick turnaround. Lastly, high cost is a major misconception. While rates are at an all-time low, it is unnecessary to have to pay high costs for a loan. Each loan situation is different and we have options from minimal costs down to zero cost loans. It is important to know that you have options.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
Picking up the phone and hearing from a past client's family member or friend after they were referred to me. This is the highest compliment I could receive.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
When I am not helping people with their home loans, I continue to try to improve one of my most inconsistent aspects in life; my golf swing. When I am not golfing, I like spend my time outdoors or in a kitchen hanging with my wife. We enjoy hiking, riding bikes, and cooking. Walking to the farmers market to pick up fresh produce for the new recipe of the week is a weekly routine we enjoy.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
Having a passion in the kitchen, I have developed a love for gardening. Going out back to pick the stuff you need for a recipe is pretty awesome.
