What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I personally like to sit down face-to-face with my customers. I recognize that not everyone fits in to a 9-5 job so I have met people at their homes in the evening or even have brought them lunch at work and had a quick bite while discussing their future plans. I think it is important to have a face-to-face meeting to build trust with my customer as well as go through the actual loan application with them so I can answer any questions they may have.
What are the pros and cons of a fixed rate mortgage versus an adjustable rate mortgage (ARM)?
A lot of people are scared of the idea of an ARM, but if you are someone who may only be in their home for 3-5 years, this is a great money saving program that may be right for them. ARMs typically have lower rate than a fixed rate mortgage, and therefore, passes on savings to the right customer.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
When I first started in the mortgage business there was definitely a learning curve. I have always had a strong customer service background so naturally I thought that it would be easy to give strong customer service to every client. My first year, I was learning just as the customer was learning about the mortgage process. The biggest take away from my first year was to always let your client know what is going on-even if nothing has changed from the last time. Communication and setting the table upfront is so important and that is why I check in with my clients on a weekly basis-just to let them know what is going on and what the next step will be.
Summary of where you grew up: family, affiliations, college, high school, etc.
I grew up in Plymouth, WI and graduated from Plymouth High School. I then went to UW Stout to be in the fashion merchandising program...that's when I met my now husband. I moved back to the Milwaukee area to finish school at UW Milwaukee. During that time I worked at Miller Brewing Company as a tour guide. Eventually, my husband and I got married and had our daughter, Lily Sunshine, who is the sunshine of our lives.
