Anthony interview Q&A

How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the Mortgage Industry for 3 years. Originally, I worked in foreclosures. Believe it or not, my job was to help people work out plans to get out of foreclosure. It was a job I could stomach. What I found was, I wasn’t able to help as many people as I thought I could. What I realized from that experience was that I needed to find an outlet that allowed me to help those same people who have went through foreclosure or even bankruptcy, and get them back into homes. That is when I realized that working for Guaranteed Rate as a Mortgage specialist was where my journey was leading to next. The sheer joy of truly helping people get back into homes, and helping people get into homes for the first time is a truly fulfilling experience. To me, that is what satisfies my wants in life. I always wanted to help people, or teach them new things, and here at Guaranteed Rate I get to do both.
What are the pros and cons of a fixed rate mortgage versus an adjustable rate mortgage (ARM)?
I love the idea of discussing and teaching my clients about ARM products. ARM products come with the benefit of having the lowest interest rates and the lowest monthly payment. A lot of people seem to misunderstand the benefits of the ARM product and I find it a great experience when they begin to understand how a product with a little bit of bad press, in reality is a great product for most people.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
There are many misconceptions about the mortgage process, but the most popular ones would be… 1. The idea that the lowest rate is the best option, people come to me and just want the best rate, which in reality might not be the best option for them. 2. Would be that the process will take about a week. This would be awesome, but reality shows the mortgage process takes closer to 20 to 30 days to fund. 3. That we can just spit out a rate to anybody at any given time, the process is designed to find the right products and pricing for your individualized wants and needs, simply quoting someone a rate is more of a disservice to how we operate since it doesn’t account for all the factors that will be a part of the transaction. We go through active listening and fact finding to make sure you are qualified, then we analyze the data, and formulate a presentation. This flow is important in making sure there are no hiccups throughout the process!
Are you active in any local associations or community groups, and at what level? What goals and/or success have you helped these groups achieve?
I have been active in Coaching Wrestling for the Palatine Cobras Kids club. Our goal over the last few years has been to grow the club, to increase the available partners to practice with. When I started we only had 10 wrestlers- as of last year we grew to over 40, by going to recruiting events, and having off-season practices to help our kids get better. I have also been active in Toastmasters- an organization that promotes Public Speaking and Leadership skills. While there I have been Club President, Club Coach and a member of an Advanced club for people who would like to become professional speakers. While in these roles, I achieved and passed the goals we had and now I am working towards completing my Area Director role to finish my DTM award, which is the highest achievement a Toastmaster can receive- The Distinguished ToastMaster Award.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I used to work at Men’s Wearhouse as a Wardrobe Consultant, and I consistently wear suits around the office. I like the look, and apparently I am the Bow-tie guy around the office.
