How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the business since 1996. I was actually inspired to get in the mortgage business because of a very terrible experience I personally went through when trying to purchase my first home. After that, I decided I could do a better job for first time buyers, found a company that didn\'t do a lot of first time buyer loans and got a job there. Not only did I fill their void, but I was able to help a lot of people have a great experience.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
A first time buyer needs to be patient. Everything in the process is new for them. When getting information, a person tends to think they understand, and move forward. Slow down, take a moment, and think about everything at least twice.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
That window of time between hearing \"approved\" and leaving the closing table is a difficult time for most all borrowers. They seem to think that once they are approved, they can close. That is not the case, and borrowers start the stress build up. If we take a little extra time to explain the process a second time, right before we tell the borrower they are approved, it is a big help. Once the stress starts, anything they don\'t understand at the closing table is a compounding problem.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
I really feel satisfied, when the client gets to the closing table, and everything is exactly as they have been told. Repletion makes everyone feel better, and when the numbers match, the client is not only happy, but that is the real trust and bonding moment. I know right then, that I have done my job and delivered to the client.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
When I first got in the mortgage business, I knew nothing. I was the biggest geek when it came to learning. I actually read every underwriting manual that was in the company I went to work for before I ever spoke to my first client. I was nervous, scared, and ready for Jeopardy!
