Brendan Harrison, and the entire GR team (Michael Yi and Khoi Vo included) were on top of everything throughout the entire process. They are truthful and honest, and delivered on their promises. When ever I needed clarification the entire team was there to help. Out of all the mortgage transactions I have had, this had to be the smoothest one yet.

Brendan Harrison was my loan officer. He was fabulous to work with!. He was extremely knowledgeable and he was prompt with all of my calls and email communication. I was thoroughly impressed with his work ethic and professionalism. I remember that his initial email said something like...."it was his goal to make this an experience that I would want to share with others" and he was right! I am a first time buyer so he had his work cut out at the start. He was patient and very willing to repeat,...

Brendan and his team was very efficient in helping me secure a loan for my first home. Brendan had coordinated with his team really well by ensuring prompt and quick responses from his team from time to time. Brendan was also super flexible in his work schedule and went beyond the usual 9-5 to ensure that I get all my questions answered, papers signed in a highly efficient manner. He was also very cognizant and understanding of my work schedules, and was always very considerate in his requests...

About Brendan

My introduction to the world of mortgages came in 2013. For close to two years I was an employee of Dovenmuehle Mortgage Inc., and served as a member of the customer service team. Being part of a third party sub-servicing entity like "DMI" allowed me to gain insight as to what the processing and servicing stages of mortgage lending entail. Most importantly, working at that position was an opportunity to gain exposure to how a multitude of mortgage lenders and investors alike, Guaranteed Rate included, conduct business in the mortgage world.

I quickly earned the respect of my peers and managers and was assigned to manage the "Welcome Call Project." This, very simply put, was a team of 5 elite customer service specialists assigned to be the first voice, the first point of contact for all new customers. Making a great first impression is colossal in beginning a healthy and transparent business relationship and only the most trusted and well skilled were invited to be part of this team.

During my tenure with DMI, I had the opportunity to not only absorb oodles of knowledge on what to do, but also what not to do. Customers would call in with complaints in reference to how their mortgage loan had been set up and all too often, the loan officers were to blame. One company however, through the entirety of my tenure with DMI, never seemed to have shade thrown at their name… Guaranteed Rate.

I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, a minor in Economics, & a 3.0 cumulative GPA. My area of specialty, and the path I chose to follow within the marketing program at NIU, was Professional Sales and I received a certificate for completing this rigorous crash course. Working for Dovenmuehle gave me a foot in the door in establishing what would be my career as a Mortgage Loan Officer.

There came a point in my days with DMI, when I realized I was ready for more responsibility, more challenging work, & a position that allowed me to use my talents more fitting. I wanted to combine my natural and seasoned skills of customer relations and sales into a profession that would not only allow me to be successful, but most importantly help improve the lives of others. Having seen the issues first hand of mistakes made by the loan officers and realizing that I know how to avoid those issues… it clicked! I want to do this, I can do this, & I believe I can do it better than those before me.

Making the move to Guaranteed Rate has been a breath of fresh air and I am confident without second thought that this has been the most rewarding professional experience I could have asked for. How lucky am I, that everyday I get to use my abilities to help secure individuals and their families with the financing they need to own and/or refinance their homes? Each day has purpose, no two are the same, and each challenge allows an opportunity for growth. I truly wish that everybody could feel the way I do about their profession and the company they work for. I am thankful to be where I am today and look forward to what the future entails for all of us here at Guaranteed Rate and to all those who put their trust in us.

Brendan interview Q&A

What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I believe that the best way to work with people is to primarily understand what it is they want to accomplish. I ask specific questions upfront, and then I let my clients speak freely. Transparency is crucial to the home buying process. Once I've gathered my valued client's basic information, I begin to tailor a product that they qualify for, and based upon their expressed desires… play matchmaker. If I know right away that what they want and what they qualify for are not one in the same, I immediately make it known and offer my expert advice on an amended path to travel.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
Be patient with the process & trust that your mortgage loan officer is working in a manor that has your best interests as his/her top priority.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
Always keep an electronic copy of your financial information securely saved to your hard drive or cloud servicing app. Streamlining your personal documents and always having them readily available should you need them is a great habit to get into. There are a lot of documents that will need to be verified and exchanged between yourself and your mortgage company throughout the home buying process. Make sure the service you use to store your documents is reputable and 100% safe.
Summary of where you grew up: family, affiliations, college, high school, etc.
I was born and raised in "The City of Broad Shoulders" Chicago, IL. Born to two wonderful individuals who set forth exemplary standards of how to not only parent your son, but how to instill a never ending drive for growth in all natures of life. My mother, who immigrated to the United States in the early 1980s is an entrepreneurial interior decorator and was born in Novy Targ, Poland. My father, a licensed para-legal and long time salesman with 30 + years of experience, like myself is a native son to "The Windy City." Being brought up in a household supported by two highly competitive and self-motivated athletes of financial stability was without a doubt the blessing I am most thankful for. This upbringing instilled in me a very goal orientated and competitive drive for success. The standard of success I set forth for myself exceeds what others consider to be sufficient. My dreams and goals are more paramount than the man next to me. While attending Maine South High School in Park Ridge, IL, a strong sense of competition was instilled in me. Watching classmates and alumni achieve awards and accolades, an inherent desire to prove my own worth and blaze my own trail of success to be later gazed upon and admired by those after me was instilled. That same work ethic and personal drive had further strengthened at the University of Northern Illinois in DeKalb, IL. This highly competitive business school opened my eyes to real world applications and would later lay the sod down for me to grow my own garden. I was an active member of the Executive Board for my Fraternity Sigma Pi International, where I held positions of Social Chair, Athletics Chair, & in my senior year, Vice President. Volunteering on campus, hosting social events for alumni and future members, & managing a house full of 30 young professionals was an experience I hold dear to my heart and am thankful to have been part of. Many of life's lessons can be learned while working with your peers. I found great pleasure in building the future of my brothers as well as my own, networking with other like minded young men and woman to advance our social and professional careers. I approach each every situation in my life with an open mind. I love new experiences as well as adapting to new situations in which I can personally gain knowledge and fine-tuned skill within while helping others achieve their goals simultaneously.I believe challenges that place us outside our comfort zone are opportunities, not problems, and I attack them head on without hesitation.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
Although I've never lived out of the state of Illinois, I have moved over 15 times before the age of 25. Most people would find it frustrating, however I looked at each move as an opportunity to make new acquaintances, discover new walks of life, and expand my appreciation for all types of people from all different backgrounds. Each neighborhood of Chicago is so unique, and I find myself lucky to have made so many great friends along the way from each of them. "In life, you're forced to see the world from many different angels, points of view; you gain knowledge from many disparate people and places… and those lessons, for better or worse, have shaped you." - Shameik Moore
