By educating my clients from our very first conversation, I aim to remove the uncertainty and anxiety from the process. Every client has a unique set of parameters and deserves a customized mortgage. How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
Since joining Guaranteed Rate in 2004, I’ve developed into a consummate mortgage professional who prides myself on my lending expertise and knowledge of products & guidelines. Having guided hundreds of buyers and homeowners through the loan process over the last decade, I can draw from extensive experience to solve even the most complex lending scenarios. I strive to provide the very best in customer service by being equally accessible and knowledgeable in order to create clients for life. Above all else, my focus and commitment is to the best interest of each client and their individual financial goals. I understand that buying a home is an enormous event and aim take some of that anxiety out of the equation. I’ve helped clients finance homes from the far reaches of the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska to a the U.S. Virgin Islands and everywhere in between. I am as comfortable guiding a first time homebuyer through their 1st Chicago condo purchase as I am aiding a seasoned move-up buyer leaving the city for the suburbs.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
Mortgage loan products and the guidelines for obtaining them are complex and confusing. I stay well-versed in the many products we have to offer. Keeping myself educated, setting the proper expectation upfront, and always offering an honest assessment are the keys to happy clients. Our very first conversation is to gather data so that I can view the entirety of their financial picture. I follow up with an overview of the process, the costs involved, and a timeline of going from point A to B to Close. Frequent communication and explanation helps clients to trust me and understand that I am a resource and adviser every step of the way.
Tell us about a mortgage product that consumers may not be aware of?
There is a giant misconception that buyers need 20% down to buy a home. We offer products that allow first-time buyers to put as little as 3% down on a conventional loan. Many move-up buyers still put between 5% and 10% down.
How has the mortgage industry changed since you started, and what would you expect in the future?
The mortgage industry has undergone a dramatic transformation since i began my career. There was a time when there was a product for practically every buyer and every homeowner, whether they were deserving or not. Though some lending requirements these days are downright unreasonable, many are for the protection of lenders and homeowners alike. The process to obtain a loan may seem daunting, but should not be if I am doing my job well. I expect the return of expanded eligibility programs in the coming years that will further open up home ownership to well-qualified buyers.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
While there are endless articles about buying a home online, there is as much misinformation out there as any. There are few practical resources for people to learn what it takes to qualify for a loan until they are in the midst of the process, which can be stressful. Also, some people want to resist some of the documentation requests. I tell my clients that our requests are for good reason, and help them to understand the need for things. That ultimately it is to make sure we are lending to qualified borrowers and avoid mistakes of the past.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
I truly love saving my clients money and helping them to buy the home of their dreams. I'm proud to have become an expert on something that has such a practical real life application, and a trusted adviser to my friends, family, realtors and their referrals.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
My spare time is dedicated to my family – my husband Ward, baby son Wyatt and our 2 Australian Shepherds - above all else. We enjoy living on the North Shore and taking advantage of all things that living here has to offer. We enjoy travelling, outdoor activities, and spending time with friends and family.
