What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
Ask questions. Listen. Ask more questions. Listen. Identify their needs. Ask them if I heard them correctly. Then I present two, three at most options that I would consider if I was in their shoes.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
Buy what you're comfortable with, not necessarily what you can afford to pay. By all means, buy - don't rent! There are no stupid questions, except the ones you don't ask. Rely on experienced pros. Always get an inspection, schedule it so you can walk through with them. Read, search and read more. There's a treasure of info on the internet. You don't have to be debt free to buy a house. It's a good idea, but is not required. Waiting to pay off debts may mean paying a higher interest rate later. Lastly - Call me today. I'll answer all your questions.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
Gathering paperwork through to a final underwriting decision. Lack of communication is the #1 complaint I hear about other lenders. Excessive documentation is probably #2. #3 is transparency. I won't say "it's in processing or underwriting and we'll let you know when it comes out". I'll share the details at each step so you're fully informed. Our digital mortgage and pod structure mean you can track progress online in real time. Securely uploading your personal info has never been easier. The bottom line though is the accessibility to me, my Mortgage Consultant and my Loan Coordinator. If we do our jobs right, you may complain about excessive communication.
Are you active in any fundraising organizations? What goals and/or success have you helped them achieve?
Destin and the Emerald Coast have a significant military presence. I've been doing VA loans since 1998 and I've served over a thousand retired and active duty personnel. It's with pride and pleasure that Geneva and I give to those we've benefited from the most. We support and raise funds for The Eagle Fund ( which helps our Special Operations soldiers get world-class care for chronic or serious injury. We also support the Destin History and Fishing Museum. Friends say I'm a passionate accountant with a personality. I'm not sure if that makes me unique. But my significant experience as a licensed accountant, auditor, landlord, house flipper, real estate investor, former business owner and mortgage professional may make me unique in my industry.
