About Frank

A fourth-generation Washingtonian, Frank T. Shull IV earned a degree in finance from the University of Maryland and wasted no time in starting up his own investment firm upon graduation. Over the years, he's helped both business owners and high net worth clients expand and prosper, as well as offering comprehensive wealth management services. Frank and his partner grew the business until it was worth nearly $1 billion under their management. Focusing primarily on investment management, lending, and insurance, Frank has always had a passion for helping others. After successfully negotiating a sale of his firm in 2007, Frank helped transition his clients over to the new owners and stepped away from the business in 2013 to become the COO of his good friend's expanding restaurant group. When his non-compete expired in 2016, Frank decided it was time to get back into what he loved to do the most: helping people finance their dreams.

Frank is an avid skier, fisherman, father, and husband. Frank also loves spending time at the beach and listening to all types of music, but especially the Grateful Dead.

What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
My experience has taught me that selecting the right mortgage is as important as finding the right home. As a loan officer it is important to me to go the extra mile for all of my clients as buying a home can be a very stressful time. With so many financing options available today, it is important to choose an experienced mortgage professional that is knowledgeable enough to present the options that best fit your needs. I have over 20 years of mortgage and finance experience. My primary number one goal is customer service. I will make the loan process as simple and as smooth as possible. I am very accessible because I understand how busy people are with their families and their careers.
Tell us about a specific challenging borrowing situation and how you got the mortgage closed and funded.
I had a very difficult loan for a real estate agent’s personal loan. He is disabled and collects disability insurance monthly as well as sells real estate. It was very difficult to calculate his exact income as the disability payments are offset by his production. I was able to help him recreate all of his deposits and his commissions which took a lot of time and documentation. The underwriters approved the loan based on all the documentation work we did together.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
I feel that most customers find that understanding everything that goes into an actual loan the most difficult part. My years as a financial planner help me patiently guide every single client through the each step of applying for a loan, credit scores, underwriting, closing and helping them understand the different loan programs available to them.
Are you active in any local associations or community groups, and at what level? What goals and/or success have you helped these groups achieve?
As a 4th generation Washingtonian I really know the area very well which allows me to help my borrowers that are new to the area. I also went to the University of Maryland where I have football and basketball tickets which I enjoy taking my family and clients to. My real estate agent referral partners are very important to me so I like to support any fundraising opportunities that are important to them. I get a tremendous amount of satisfaction as a loan officer because I have the opportunity to help so many people buy their dream homes. It is really an honor to help finance a home for all my clients!
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I am unique because I spent over 20 years as a financial planner and wealth manager. While doing loans was a part of my practice I developed a lot of knowledge about all the financial tools that are available to my clients. Today this helps me advise my mortgage clients on strategic ways to come up with their down payments while incurring the least amount of taxes. One other thing is I am a Dead head and have seen the Grateful Dead over 100 times!
