How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I’ve been in the business for over 18 years. I was inspired by the business because I always enjoyed finance and this position allows me to advise folks on likely their largest most important investment of their lives.
Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
One of my most enjoyable things about originating in and around the Philadelphia market is the wide variety of clientele we have the pleasure of serving. It’s excited to work with a range of borrowers from the first-time homebuyer to the high net worth clientele. Our first-time homebuyers typically have questions on the process in general. It’s mainly guiding them on the important steps as their loan moves through our system towards closing. But first we’ll insure we’re presenting them with the best loan for their needs geared towards many of the first-time homebuyer programs offered.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I try to have a detailed conversation on their short-term and long-term financial goals. Once I know their projected budget, savings goals and timelines for being in the home I can then properly advise the best loan to meet their needs.
How long have you been in the mortgage business? What awards have you won?
I have been in the mortgage business for 18 years. Over this time I have been ranked as a top 200 Originator in Originator Magazine, a top 1% Mortgage Originator and earned the highest designation awarded by the Mortgage Bankers Association – Certified Mortgage Banker. I am very proud of this achievement as less than 1000 individuals in the mortgage industry hold this designation.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
I would advise first time homebuyers to insure they’re leveraging the best program possible. There are so many first-time home buyer programs out there you have to be careful about some income restrictions, sales price restrictions and only certain property types being qualified. Through these details, I think it is very important to use local mortgage professionals who fully understand these caveats to insure a reliable pre-approval and accurate options.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
I think the part of the home loan process that customers find most difficult is the asset documentation we often need. There are many times clients are obtaining gifts from family members or using funds from a retirement or investment account. When this occurs, there is very specific documentation that is required. We communicate these requirements early on so everyone is prepared and can be proactive in documenting the asset information properly and quickly!
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
Be timely on your responses to our documentation requests. If our team and our clients are communicating in a timely fashion the process should be painless and smooth. The faster we obtain the documentation we request the smoother the overall process will be. The best way to do this is get your personal finances organized and keep good records of your pay, tax returns and asset/bank statements.
Are you active in any fundraising organizations? What goals and/or success have you helped them achieve?
I am an active donor and participant with the Wounded Warrior Foundation, Homes for Our Troops Foundation, Habitat for Humanity and am a regular blood donor. I’ve helped raise funds for various events for each organization and try to attend as many events as I am able.
Summary of where you grew up: family, affiliations, college, high school, etc.
I grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania through grade school. My family then moved to Tampa, FL where I attended Tampa Catholic High School, Florida State University and then finished my degree in finance while working full-time at Strayer University.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I am a third-generation Philadelphia Eagles season ticket holder. My grandfather attended games with my Dad at the historic Franklin Field at University of Pennsylvania, I then attended games with my Dad at Veterans Stadium (not so historic!) and now I attend games with my sons at Lincoln Financial Field. I am a big Philadelphia sports fans and root for all four sports teams all year round!
