Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
My business in driven towards First Time Homebuyers. I find the whole process of guiding people through Homeownership to be very rewarding. With questions ranging from: “I know there are lots of types of mortgages - how do I know which one is best for me?” “How do I know if I can get a loan?” “How much money will I have to come up with to buy a home?” ”What will happen at closing?” My job, as your loan officer, is to ensure that you not only go through the motions of the loan process but that you fully grasp and understand the process as well. I want my customers to feel as if they can always come to me with questions - the mortgage industry can appear to be a mysterious thing, but it's truly simple once you have the right person to help you. That's where I come in!
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
That it's time! Buying your very first home is one of life's biggest thrills, but it does come with a few "freak out" moments, too. Find yourself a Loan Officer who understands both you and your goals! That's the most important part throughout this whole transaction. What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
Send us your documents when asked. If you don't send us your documents in a timely manner, I will keep bugging you until you do and we both don't want that! Many things have changed in the mortgage industry since the crash and - though it may seem excessive - it's for your protection. Certain items might be requested throughout the process that you may leaving you scratching your head as to "Why?" Our job as your lender is to ensure that you are 1. Able to properly qualify for the loan and 2. To ensure that we're setting you up for success with owning a home. The Underwriter is the person in the company who will ultimately decide if the loan is approved or not. If the documents that they've requested have not been sent in we simply cannot move forward with the loan.
