About Jessica

I started in the mortgage business part-time while attending Queens College. After graduation, I stayed on and continued to grow. In the 25 years I have been in the mortgage industry, I have worked in almost every aspect of mortgage financing, pooling loans to be sold to investors, post closing review, sales assistant, processing and underwriting before becoming an originator 15 years ago. The experience in all the different positions really helped me learn the business and what it takes to get a loan approved and closed. I have been married for 16 years and have 2 wonderful children. I am my daughter's softball coach and girl scout troop leader and have become my son's roadie, bringing his amps, guitars and saxophones to his various musical endeavors. We are avid skiers in the winter and beach bums in the summer. I really love the interaction with people that I get to have in this industry. You really get to become a part of someone's life helping them into their new home or helping save money or helping find money to help pay for an adventure of their own.

What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
To help a customer find the perfect loan, the first question I ask is do you foresee yourself in this home for a specific amount of time? Is this a home you plan on growing old in or is this the starter home you hope to grow out of? Based on that information, you can help guide someone into the right loan term and product.
What are the pros and cons of a fixed rate mortgage versus an adjustable rate mortgage (ARM)?
The pro of a an adjustable rate mortgage is that you get the lower interest rate for a set amount of time, the first 5, 7 or 10 years. If you don't see yourself in the property beyond that initial 5, 7 or 10 years, then this is a great product to help lower the interest rate. The disadvantage of course is plans may change and you have the uncertainty of where rates will be if you are still in the property after the intial locked in period. If you really see yourself in the home for more then 10 years or you aren't really sure, a fixed rate is the way to go.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
The best way to ensure a smooth mortgage underwriting process is to complete the initial application as accurately as possible and to provide complete documentation that is asked for. Your loan officer is here to help package the loan and get you through the process. If they don't have any surprises, you won't either.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
When I'm not helping people with their home loans, I really enjoy being present in my family.
