How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage business for 20+ years. My passion is helping people and I love seeing clients either getting the keys to their new home or refinancing and saving money!
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
I have worked with many first time home buyers over the years and I would advise them to save money, establish good credit by opening a few credit accounts, use them monthly and pay them in full or at least down under 30% of the account’s limit with credit card type accounts. Low credit utilization factors result in higher credit scores, which opens doors to more loan products that have better interest rate pricing.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
The beginning stages of the loan process can be the most confusing for customers. While 70% of people buy homes, we are not taught about home buying and the importance of credit in school; even at the college level. Hundreds of clients over the years have thanked me for taking the time at the beginning pre-approval stage to patiently listen to their concerns and meet their needs by fully answering their questions. This helps customers understand the process as well as the importance of providing documents quickly and completely. I treat everyone the way I would like to be treated and if I can help a customer feel more comfortable and confident with me then that’s a great start!
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
My wife and I have 4 wonderful children whom we enjoy spending time with. Between little league baseball, middle school track, band practice, hiking, swimming and playing board games, our lives are full and busy. I also serve at a soup kitchen each month organizing a team of 10 volunteers to prepare and serve food to 40-60 working poor and homeless guests who regularly come for a delicious hot meal and fellowship. I am blessed by the opportunity to serve.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
For the past 40 years I have enjoyed playing guitar; electric, acoustic, mandolin and slide. I have played at nursing homes, at church and in different bands. For the past 2 years I have been working on a project involving one my real estate friends who is a great drummer and we have a tribute band called “The Grateful Dadz”.
