In 1992, after running high end auto dealerships for over 23 years, I decided that I wanted to do something more rewarding than just watching people drive away. I have helped people get into their first home, have babies, sell and move up to a bigger home, watch kids move away and reduce that home size. They become an extension of your family. I pride myself in what I do because of the referrals from past clients. That says that I am doing it right. I served in the U.S. Marines from 1968 thru 1972. It gives me a great deal of pride to help my fellow service members in purchasing a home. Many think that they can't afford a home without 20% down, only to find out that they can be homeowners with $0 Down. I have belonged to the local Association for REALTORS for the full 26 years. Being active in the community is very important to me. For that very reason, I was awarded the Affiliate of the year for 2011 by The Inland Gateway Association of REALTORS, been on various boards of local Equestrian groups, had a radio show for 3 years on KTIE 590, current member of the Norco Planning commission and announce for all Norco Parades. I live in Norco with my amazing wife Kathy. I know that most people only talk to me because I am married to her. We love horse camping, traveling, our 5 Grandkids and our circle of friends.

What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
In many cases, the clients come to me prior to finding an agent. I try to feel the type of personality they have and then try to match them up with a couple of great agents that are very much like them. It adds to the home buying experience.
Tell us about a specific challenging borrowing situation and how you got the mortgage closed and funded.
I recently had a healthcare professional that worked at a hospital. She was certified and made great money to qualify, but the hospital would not verify her employment. I worked closely with the Underwriting staff and we came up with a way to verify her job even though the hospital refused to verify any employment.....Happy Ending
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
Finding that special mortgage program that fits your financial goals, utilizing any and all down payment assistance programs, and you should work with an experienced lender.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
The amount of documentation required. Most borrowers are amazed at what documentation they have to bring in. Since the Meltdown and the inception of Dodd-Frank, the government and the investors on Wall Street are under more scrutiny than ever. If you look at most borrowers, they don't save their bank statements, don't know where their tax returns are, don't keep pay stubs. We need it all. Borrowers get frustrated when they can't see why you need it.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
Most people that I speak with think they need 20% down. Most are amazed that they can own a home with little or no money down and still have a reasonable payment.

What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
My greatest moment is a month or two after a buyer closes their transaction and moves in. It is magic when I speak to them and they have realized that homeownership is pure heaven.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I very much enjoy my profession. I am a few months from joining the ranks on Social Security but I can't find it in my heart to stop working as a Mortgage Professional. The feeling that I get, helping people find that their dream is real, I can't leave that. I thought about being a Walmart Greeter, but they said I was to chipper.
