How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I started in the mortgage business in early 2009 as the country went into economic crisis, I saw that homeowners and first time homebuyers were having difficulty either upgrading to a larger home or just getting into their first home. Being a real estate investment analyst at the time, I knew I could help.
Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
Fortunately I don't have a typical customer, borrowers range from first time home buyers to homeowners upgrading to larger homes to seasoned investors. Borrowers typically want to know how affordable their purchase will be and how I can get them the best loan product to suit their needs.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
We'll discuss what is the best current budget for their housing needs, how long they expect to be in their new home and projected future income.
Tell us about a specific challenging borrowing situation and how you got the mortgage closed and funded.
A few years ago, a prospective borrower was referred to me in hopes that I could help her because she was turned down by two mortgage companies. She had a very poor credit score and a mountain of debt that would not qualify her for any loan product. I worked with her to reduce debt by consolidating student loans and removing erroneous items on her credit report. After a few months she was able to get a loan and close on a new home.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
Lenders are required to fully document a borrowers credit worthiness so being organized, thorough and timely with the documents being requested is the best way to get through the loan process.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
Being able to provide an affordable loan to borrowers to buy a their new home.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I've had the chance to live in some interesting places due to corporate relocations - Boston, Scottsdale, San Diego, Lake Tahoe, Maui, Ft Lauderdale. I've settled in Palm Beach County Florida and I know what it's like to relocate and buy & sell a home whether it's across town or across the country. I like to cook and have picked up a lot of good regional recipes along the way so meals at our house are always a surprise.
