About Kyla

I enthusiastically entered the mortgage business immediately after graduation from Hofstra University in 1995. I became a member of our nationally recognized competitive dance team and entered college as a pre-med student, studying to be an orthopedic surgeon. Instead of med school, I was granted the opportunity to have the chance to change peoples lives through home ownership. I was fortunate to learn from the best, many of which are still my colleagues today. I witnessed how an industry I quickly grew to love was littered with such a lack of integrity. This further inspired me to become a student of my profession, and always "do the right thing" by my clients when others didn't. Consequently, 20 years later and with a squeaky clean lending and moral reputation, every decision I make and conversation I have is always driven with the best interest of my clients, always.

I was born and raised in Northern NJ and have lived in Hoboken for the last 15 years. I love my community and am very immersed in it, both personally and professionally. Overall health and wellness enthusiast, life coach, and Mortgage Veteran are often my taglines. Avid sports fan, wine enthusiast, coach, cook, carpenter, certified AQHA equestrian, retired music video choreographer and golfer who doesn't golf enough but does have a hole in one!

Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
My typical client is a first time home buyer, a repeat client either looking to upsize or downsize, a Veteran, or perhaps a previous client looking to refinance to change the terms of their loan, whether to refinance because the market has changed and we can rewrite their loan at a lower interest rate, save money, or take money out of their equity for home improvements, education, investment, or a number of other reasons.
Tell us about a specific challenging borrowing situation and how you got the mortgage closed and funded.
A well qualified buyer was trying to buy a condo. Two weeks before closing the lender went dark on them with no explanation why. Three days later they got a letter of denial in the mail from their lender with no reason and no return calls from their Loan Officer. Ever since the mortgage and banking crisis of 2008, condo lending has become a science in and of itself. In addition to qualifying you as a buyer, the building as to be approved (or not) which is achieved by gathering an exhaustive list of information from the condo association, and then....knowing how to interpret it and what to do with it. Most lenders and all "big" banks fall down here, and this is where I'm an expert. I get calls from panicked buyers, realtors, and attorneys hoping to save their clients transaction in the final hour. So, I fix problems other lenders can't even begin to comprehend and in the condo world this happens daily.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
As is anything in life, it's hard to imagine what "it" looks like if you've never done it. Or haven't done it recently. That's where I come in. I lay out a detailed comprehensive road map of what the journey ahead will look like. What to expect, what might go wrong, and how we can potentially avoid it, as a team. I partner with my clients and guide them through the process, explaining what will happen before it even happens. My intense focus and attention to detail puts my clients at ease and they are always prepared, never unpleasantly surprised.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
I have the rare and unique opportunity to build personal relationships with my clients as I guide them through the most likely largest financial decision of their life. There is a huge responsibility attached to this, and one I take very seriously. I often show up to as many of my closings as my schedule allows. This is where most lenders hide because chances are they made mistakes at some point in the process. I walk in with complete confidence that my team and I just gave them the best lending experience they will ever have. THAT'S inspiring to me.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I'm often told by family, friends, and clients that "I have more energy than anyone they know." Perhaps they're right. Living a wellness based lifestyle, both mind and body, as well as waking up every day with a genuine sense of excitement, is the direct result of living a life of clear purpose and serving others.
