How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage business since 1999. I was inspired to become a loan officer from my manager. I was working for him at his appraisal business when he decided to open a Mortgage Lending office.
How has the mortgage industry changed since you started, and what would you expect in the future?
Since 1999 the mortgage industry has seen many changes. The industry has evolved from a few inflexible products, to products which required little to no documentation, and then back to a more standard set of products offered by all lenders. Although I believe some products and guidelines may loosen slightly over time, the required documentation we collect is likely to remain the same.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
If you want to have a smooth mortgage closing the borrower must be completely honest with the lender and understand time is of the essence. If the borrower can respond quickly to questions and requests for additional information it will ensure the process moves efficiently to closing.
Are you active in any local associations or community groups, and at what level? What goals and/or success have you helped these groups achieve?
I am a long-standing member of my local Kiwanis Club, where I previously served as Past Secretary, Past President and past board member. I also advise the Key Club at Adrian High School, which I have done for over eight years. Key Club is an inspiring group of future leaders who meet every week to find ways to better serve their community and school. In addition, I have proudly served on the HOPE Community Center board for over six years, and am the immediate Past President of the Board. This is a remarkable organization serving adults with disabilities in Lenawee County.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I am a mother to four amazing and bright young adults, I love to garden and even pull weeds in my backyard, I am a terrible golfer but still golf every week when the weather permits, and if there is one thing I want to do for the rest of my life it’s to inspire people to never underestimate their abilities and to be all they dreamed they could be!
