How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I've been in the mortgage business for 17 years and banking 20. After becoming a branch manager at a bank, I began selling some mortgage products internally. It was the most rewarding feeling to help someone achieve homeownership, so I decided to focus on it full-time.
Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
I have a variety of clients from first time home buyers to second home and investment property purchasers. The largest questions by far is how will my rate affect my payment and for those who do not put 20% down, what is the best way to pay the least amount for mortgage insurance.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I typically start with listening to the customers goals and financial status; then start working backwards to find the right mortgage for them.
How long have you been in the mortgage business? What awards have you won?
Throughout my career I have won numerous awards for managing a high producing team and also for personal production.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
Consider how the payment will affect you across the board and that you may have expenses associated with maintaining the home. If your rent is significantly lower than your proposed payment and have little or no money for down-payment, I suggest they start making the larger payment and setting those funds aside to save for the down-payment or closing costs. In some cases when all is covered it provides a nice reserve for unexpected expenses.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
The amount of documentation required. The mortgage process has changed significantly over the last 10 years and occasionally it can feel overbearing. I try to set expectations early so they are not surprised.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I enjoy boating and spending time at the beach. I also enjoy gardening and cooking.
