How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
Growing up, the mortgage business was my family’s business. I remember filing at my parents’ mortgage company when I was sixteen years old. Later I worked the phones as a receptionist and then as a junior Account Executive, Senior Account Executive, and sales manager. I tried other finance fields but I came back to mortgages because it’s in my blood and no other field seems as dynamic and interesting.
What are the pros and cons of a fixed rate mortgage versus an adjustable rate mortgage (ARM)?
The decision between fixed rate and adjustable is really a judgment call about how likely you are to sell your home in the next few years. If a borrower expects to sell within 5 years then it is just throwing money away to pay the extra premium for a 30 year fixed rate. The best loan product is the loan product that fits your life situation.
What 2 or 3 mobile apps would you recommend for home buyers or house hunters, and why? What Smart Apps do you recommend your customers use for the house hunting process?
Of course I would recommend Zillow because it gives users a great experience. I’m also hearing lots of good buzz about HomeSnap. I would also recommend GR Loans, the app by Guaranteed Rate. Unlike other mortgage apps, GR Loans gives very detailed information about monthly payment options and it shows real rates.
Are you active in any local associations or community groups, and at what level? What goals and/or success have you helped these groups achieve?
I’m a very active member of my church. We worship together, perform community service, and are just there for each other. I’m also very into family vacations and just plain family time. I take my little boys fishing and our family loves to go camping. It’s important to work hard but we can’t lose sight of why we work. Family is everything.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I love watching mixed martial arts (MMA) such as the Ultimate Fighting Championships. On fight nights, we BBQ, get chips, and gather around to watch the fight. My wife is this beautiful, delicate little thing and yet she’s yelling at the TV when her fighters aren’t doing well. It might seem incongruous to some who know that we’re committed Christians or that I’m a Shakespeare buff or that my wife and I love to go to the opera, but there’s no contradiction for us. There is something very passionate and very real about MMA, and we’re very passionate, very real people.
