About Mark

I am currently in my third decade in the mortgage industry. How is that possible since I am only 29! Wow...Well, I was introduced by a co-worker to Champion Mortgage back in 1992, as one of the owners was a client of hers. She always raved about the company and its culture and even though I knew zero about the business- I was intrigued! Well, that was 25 years ago and I am still loving the ride! What I truly enjoy about the business is helping people. I educate them on the best way to navigate the tricky mortgage maze from their loan pre-approval all the way to the closing. I also help to make a difference in their life - for them and their family. The happiness that fills the room at closing, when a family is purchasing their first home, is priceless.

Pace University is where I called home for my college years. I was a marketing major and also played baseball, earning a scholarship after walking on my sophomore year. Juggling a full course load while maintaining a full schedule for baseball (75 games between scrimmages, fall and spring seasons) at the Division 1 level definitely was the best preparation for the business world. The mortgage world is flush with competition and often success comes down to not only your personality, but how hard you are willing to work and "out-hustle" everyone else.

I have been blessed to be the father of two amazing young women who have already made their mark on this world and will continue to do so! I have two freshmen - one in high school and the other in college. Both young ladies are successful competitive swimmers, competing on the local and national level. My oldest has transformed her swimming prowess into an appointment with the United States Naval Academy where she is a member of the class of 2019. Her younger sister is not far behind!

I am an expert in first-time home-buyer lending, including educational seminars. Guaranteed Rate offers a full array of loans including conventional, jumbo and government lending. I specialize in VA military lending, construction and renovation lending.

I was raised in Westwood, New Jersey and currently reside there. I spend my down time as a spectator of both my girls' swim meets and when I am not doing that, I play golf and also am an amateur baseball umpire.

What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
My client meetings are no less than 30-45 minutes. I am not the type of loan officer that just quotes a rate. As I often explain to my borrowers, "you are not buying a toaster. This is one of the biggest financial decisions of your life." I follow an outline that talks about everything from total income to total expenses, if they have or plan to have children, tuition, etc. to help come up with the best plan for them. We collaborate to figure out the best solution!
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
I really enjoy working with first time home buyers because they have their "eyes wide open". What I mean by this is, is their willingness to listen and act upon what we discuss and uncover in terms of qualifying for their loan and actually living in their new home. Their mortgage payment is not just the loan, taxes and insurance. They have to put food in their fridge, turn on the lights and heat the darn place! I always tell my folks to EDUCATE themselves before, during and after the process is over. Prepare themselves for what happens after they sign the line that is dotted!
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
The most difficult part of the process is the PROCESS itself! It is not easy to get qualified nor is it easy to survive until closing! Seriously, my job is to educate my clients on exactly what to expect throughout. The kiss of death, is for my client to get to the closing table and say, "Wow, Mark never told me about that!" Then I did not do my job.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
Easily the most satisfaction I get from my job is the ability to help people. Whether it is refinancing their home to reduce their payments, or pull money out for college tuition or helping folks buy their first home. Knowing that I was an important cog in that process is extremely rewarding.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I call Westwood, New Jersey home. I have literally grown up in the town, which is the hub of Bergen county-and love everything about it! It’s a great place to live and raise a family!
