Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
Typical customers: First time home buyers. Questions: how much do they qualify for, is there any help with down payment, how long does it take to get approved.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
On initial contact, I create a friendly rapport with my customers to make them feel more relaxed, confident that I can help them and build up a trusting relationship. Then we discuss what they are looking for in a home and how much they would like to invest, not only upfront but monthly. We meet at a location that is most convenient for them unless they want to apply online or over the phone. Then, based on the needs the have expressed to me, I research lenders and explain to them the best options available.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
Get a Home Warranty; unless you have the ability and the funds to fix things yourself, this is a must.
Get a home inspection. Read all paperwork carefully and ask questions about anything that you do not understand or is contrary to what you were told.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
Have all of your documentation together when you first meet with your Loan Officer.
Be upfront with your Loan Officer when discussing your income and credit, don’t leave anything out even if you think it may not be important or you think there is no record of it.
Provide any requested information within 24 hours.
Do Not do anything that will affect your credit.

I am the daughter of a U.S. Navy Veteran, become a U.S. Navy service member and am happily married 30 years to a disabled veteran. I grew up in New England but have traveled and lived in most parts of the U.S.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
Helping people through a process that can at times be overwhelming and seeing their satisfaction at the end of the process that they are now a homeowner.

When people meet me, the see me as lady-like, feminine; but I actually like to smoke cigars and am a very competitive poker player.
