About Matthew

I have over 13 years of experience originating mortgages. During this time, I have worked with clients ranging from recent college graduates purchasing their first home to retirees looking to downsize, and all phases in-between. I began my career working with financial advisors which required the ability to not only provide a basic mortgage transaction, but one that would also incorporate a financial investment plan. I begin every scenario as a unique opportunity to get to know the customer, discover their overall goals, and find the best financing option for their specific situation.

What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
Listen, ask questions, and listen some more. Through the course of conversation customers will often provide details about their overall situation that might lead to options they might not have previously considered. A mortgage is often the largest financial investment that someone will be involved with and it is important to look at all scenarios and pay attention to the details.
How has the mortgage industry changed since you started, and what would you expect in the future?
It's fair to say that almost everything has changed since I started over 13 years ago. Regulations and credit policies are still changing today and will continue to impact the mortgage industry going forward. Today, more than ever, it is vital to not only embrace change, but to also seek new and innovative ways to stay ahead of the ever-evolving mortgage landscape. What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
Supporting documentation for loan approval is almost always the most difficult part of the process. If there are items that the customer doesn't have immediate access to in their possession, I try to find alternative ways to for them to obtain the required items. They might be able to request an old W2 from their HR department or sign up for electronic bank statements.
Summary of where you grew up: family, affiliations, college, high school, etc.
I have lived in the greater Saint Louis area all of my life with the exception of four years while I attended Missouri State University. I was born in South City, attended high school at Oakville in South County, and currently reside in Saint Charles.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I graduated with a degree in Entertainment Management and originally explored a career in the Casino industry.
