Our Loan Officer Matt Packard was great. He was incredibly responsive (day and night), and kept us well informed of where we were in the process, and immediately let us know if we needed any additional paperwork to submit. It was a pleasure working with Matt and his team. They really put the customer first, which is a breath of fresh air these days.

About Matt

I have been in the mortgage business since 2010, and in banking since 1999. Ever since buying my first house, I have been intrigued by the real estate industry, and mortgages fit perfectly with my background in finance, working with loans in my banking career, and working with people, which has always been a great pleasure of mine. I love being able to work with people to secure the home of their dreams when purchasing, and also love saving them significant money when refinancing. I grew up in Milford, MA, and graduated from Milford High School. I then went on to graduate with a B.S. in Management from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. I learned a great deal about finance through my studies at Rutgers, and about networking through my internship, and side jobs that I worked to help put myself through school. I am married with 3 children. My wife, Michelle, and I have a girl and two boys. We have lived in Hudson, MA, since 2002. I am on the Board of Directors for Hudson Youth Baseball/Softball. I coach baseball for Hudson Youth, as well as for an AAU team out of Worcester, MA. I am an active member of my church in Marlborough, MA, and am a lector at masses there. My hobbies include golf, basketball, and travelling with my family.

Matt interview Q&A

How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage business since 2010. I had an extensive background in banking, and in sales, prior to this. I was convinced by a close friend, who is a real estate agent, that I would be very successful as a mortgage loan officer, and I have never looked back!
Tell us about a mortgage product that consumers may not be aware of?
Many people are not aware of the Fannie Mae Home Ready product, which is an excellent product for first-time homebuyers. Those who qualify (as there are maximum income limits) get preferred rates over other conventional buyers, and can put as little as 3% down, all of which can be gifted! This is a great fit for many first-time buyers who have student loan payments, or high monthly rent payments, and may not have been able to save the typical 5% down to buy a property.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
Borrowers can do several things to insure a smooth underwriting process. They include: 1) Make payments on time for all debt that they have 2) Avoid making large deposits into their bank account that can't be documented 3) Respond quickly to your loan officer and processor when documentation is requested. The quicker you can send it to them, the smoother the process. 4) Be up front and honest about everything having to do with income, credit, and assets when starting your application. The more knowledge I have of your situation, as a loan officer, the better I can find the right solution to fit your needs.
Are you active in any local associations or community groups, and at what level? What goals and/or success have you helped these groups achieve?
I am the treasurer for Hudson Youth Baseball/Softball, and am on the Board of Directors. I have been a director of both the minors, and majors, divisions recently. I have been head coach in 4 different divisions of HYBS as well. I have always had a passion for baseball, and it has been brought out by my two sons, who love to play the game. I have coached 2 championship victories, and two second place finishes, in my four seasons as a head coach. My biggest joy, though, so far, was watching my then-10 year old son hit his first home run over the fence last summer!
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I skipped 5th grade as a youngster. Most people don't believe me, but I skipped from 4th to 6th grade ... unfortunately, my wife will say I peaked as a child!
