How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage business since March of 2003. I wanted an avenue to help people achieve their home-ownership goals. After purchasing my first home in 1995, I began to research the business and finally began my career about 8 years later after the purchase of my second home. I haven’t regretted it yet.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
My advice to a first-time home-buyer is that they pick the loan that suits them and aligns with their goals. Also, to seek advice from professionals and research the different programs available for them. They need to be sure to work with someone that takes the time to empower them with information, so they can make an educated decision.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
The best thing to do is to be responsive, provide all information that is requested up front when taking the application. This allows the VP to submit an accurate application, and set the proper expectations. This will assure a smoother process for the customer and all parties involved. Withholding information doesn’t help, and can cause an issue in the middle of the process. Also, know that the lender wants them to move into their home or refinance as soon as the customer wants to, but we can’t help them if they are unwilling to provide information when needed and exactly how it was requested. Too much or too little information can cause a problem. The borrower should know why the information is being requested and know what to expect when providing the information. That is mine and my teams job.
Summary of where you grew up: family, affiliations, college, high school, etc.
I grew up in the South Suburbs of Chicago in Park Forest Illinois. I was born in South Bend Indiana but moved to Park Forest at the beginning of kindergarten. My father worked as a School Psychologist in Crown Point for over 20 years and taught at Gary IU. I graduated from Rich East High School and played football at Millikin University until I injured my knee. I finished up my college degree in 2013 with the support of my wife, and my daughters Deaven and Hannah, and my son Micah. I have lived in Crown Point Indiana now for the past 13 years and love the area and it allows me to still be close to all my friends in Illinois. I have the best of both worlds.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I love spending time with my family. If that is day outside grilling, a day at the beach, watching a movie, or having a catch in the backyard. I take advantage of the time I have to spend it with the ones I love. Tomorrow isn’t promised.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I like to have fun and always have something silly on my mind, a song on my lips, or a find a way to express myself (usually shaking my tail-feather). In my younger years I had a bleach blond mohawk. The mohawk is gone (thank goodness) but having fun hasn’t stopped. It must be the drummer in me. BE BOLD, BE GRATEFUL AND ALWAYS BE KIND.
