About Mitch

I have been working in the mortgage industry since 2002. It is a great field where I can utilizes my financial and computer background to help my clients. I am a former CPA with an Information systems background. These background skills help give me a solid understanding of the financial requirements and technology of the current mortgage environment. Prior to being a Senior Loan Officer, I works as a mortgage processor to better understand the operations that go on behind the scenes in underwriting loan files. I also spent a decade working in Software Quality assurance that further honed my technology skills. When I am not helping my clients, I spent most of my time with my wife and 2 young children. They all love skating, skiing, swimming and going to the beach!

How long have you been in the mortgage business? What awards have you won?
I have been in the industry for 14 years. Before joining Guaranteed Rate, I was the top producing loan officer for a regional Mortgage Broker for 5 of the last 6 years.
What are the pros and cons of a fixed rate mortgage versus an adjustable rate mortgage (ARM)?
Fixed rate mortgages are always the safest, most conservative choice for what is most likely the biggest investment in a family's life. However, for some people on a career path, there are intermediate goals that might include moving up from a starter home. If the near team for this transition is 5-7 years, and a person is comfortable with some longer term interest rate risk, then an ARM program could be a very smart financial move with substantial financial savings during this time period.
What 2 or 3 mobile apps would you recommend for home buyers or house hunters, and why? What Smart Apps do you recommend your customers use for the house hunting process?
Zillow and Trulia both have good apps to help you find and compare homes in the area for sale and looking at what recent sales have been for similar homes in the area.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
Helping clients navigate the mortgage approval process is very rewarding. This can be a very stressful process for many people, and I take great pride in being able to communicate to the borrower early on how the process will unfold and what they will need to document to complete the approval process. My company's technology allows me to generate an accurate pre-approvals which help identify requirements and issues early on, so they can be addressed in advance of an application. I also have extensive background knowledge of lender guidelines for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and specialty mortgage products like Mass Housing programs. This allows my clients to get a full range of product and payment choices for all types of loan scenarios.
