How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
After working as a paralegal in Real Estate and Mortgages, managing properties, and a plethora of my own loan experiences buying, and building, I was always intrigued by the mortgage process. Every situation was different and the puzzle pieces had to fit together just right. I love solving puzzles and I especially love delivering results. It was a natural fit to pursue my career as a Loan Officer. Specifically, I used Guaranteed Rate for my own loan and was so impressed with the ease of the process, the excellent customer service and the smart business model, I had to work for this company!!
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
Knowledge is power. Plan and prepare. Discuss your goals and the path to achieving them. Plan and stick to the plan. I don’t believe there is a “typical” or cookie cutter customer. Each mortgage situation is unique to some degree and each client has a different goal they are looking to achieve. Whether my client is a first-time home buyer, moving into their “dream home”, or downsizing, we can look at their situation and goals together, come up with the plan and the program that best meets their needs and execute our plan to achieve those goals.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
I find Underwriting is the part of the process customers find most difficult. Educating and communicating with my clients is key. Educating my customers and making sure we are all proactive during the lending process makes for smooth transactions and happy clients. Gathering, and updating documents and clearing conditions of loans can seem like a repetitive or tedious process, but it is critical to get the information needed to keep things running smoothly. I am always available and in communication with my customers to help them understand not just the Underwriting process but the entire loan process.
Summary of where you grew up: family, affiliations, college, high school, etc.
Helping my clients purchase their dream home is extremely satisfying, year after year. I would say I get the most reward out of helping Buyers that have had life challenges in the past achieve home ownership when they thought it couldn’t happen. That is when I really get to put my experience to work. I grew up with my parents and one sister in Schaumburg, Illinois, attending Conant high school and then later North Central College. I graduated with a major in political science and entertained the idea of becoming a lawyer. I started out working for banks on the foreclosure side of mortgages. I really enjoy finance and solving the mortgage equations so I and am grateful to take that knowledge and help my clients build their lives and achieve their goals. I feel the ability to provide clients with industry expertise while making the process enjoyable and fun, is a great combination. This helps make the most important purchase of their lives less stressful and more memorable.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I love spending time with my family. I spend a lot of time at ice rinks being a hockey mom to two boys. I grew up having family Sunday dinners at my house and that is one tradition my husband and I have carried on ourselves. I love to cook, garden, read and when I can find some quiet time, knit.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I have an uncanny ability to remember license plates……random but true.
