How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage business over 8 years. I love finance, numbers and the complexity of the business and mostly working with people. What inspires me is the feeling you get from helping someone achieve their goals in life – being an instrument of positive change.
What are the pros and cons of a fixed rate mortgage versus an adjustable rate mortgage (ARM)?
Fixed rates are simple and easy to calculate for outcome plus payment. ARMs are a bit more complex but very misunderstood powerful financial savings tool. One of the best features an ARM has over a Fixed is flexibility in payment and elimination of interest through additional principal reduction applied to the balance. When the initial fixed rate on the ARM ends the payment can go down even if the rate goes up due to the balance being lower.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
The best way to ensure a smooth process is how well you can document the 4 basics of the mortgage approval process (Income, Assets, Credit, and Liabilities). The more accurate and detailed you can be will make it easy for the reader to connect the dots – document as if you’re telling a story for the underwriter and respond quickly to questions and additional documentation and it will be very easy.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I love the big outdoors, mountain biking, camping, fishing, football – spending time with my family and travel.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I enjoy driving and going fast – one European vacation, my wife and I were in Munich and we decided to drive to Neuschwanstein Castle from downtown Munich. On the way home I drove back on the Autobahn – my wife fell asleep on the trip back. I did more than 155mph most of the way home – it was a blast. My wife asked how we got back home so fast. I told her I took her boarding pass before takeoff and just smiled.
