About Paul

I have been happily in the mortgage industry since 1998. Being able to help people get into homes and save money has been the primary reason why I chose this career. It gives me great satisfaction seeing the faces of clients light up when they are handed the keys to their new home. Being able to help people do this in a stress free, professional, and relaxed environment has brought great gratification to me.

I am originally from Buffalo, New York but have lived in Northern Virginia for 30 years now. I am happily married for 26 years and have two wonderful children. My family has resided in Fairfax, Virginia in our current residence for the last 13 years. My wife works for a major real estate company and our daughter is entering her senior year in high school. Our son, 25, is a graduate of Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!) and currently lives and works in Denver, Colorado.

I am a big sports fan and love to cook for family and friends. Not unexpected, given my Sicilian heritage. My family enjoys giving back to the community through our church and other avenues. We have recently been introduced to the wonderful world of rowing. Our daughter made it to the high school nationals this year. I would highly recommend it!

How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage industry since 1998. Helping people achieve The American Dream inspired me to get into the business. Constantly meeting interesting, unique, and wonderful people has kept me in the business. Every day is really a great opportunity.
Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
I really don't have a typical customer. I enjoy working with all sorts of people. I love working with Veterans. They are tremendous men and women of honor and integrity! I greatly enjoy working with first time home buyers, as well. Many believe that buying and financing a home is an overwhelmingly complex process. I greatly enjoy showing them how easy it can be and how it's the best way to achieve financial independence.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
The first thing I do is to LISTEN to my customers. I find out what they need and want and set realistic expectations based on their circumstances. Next, I give them options on what they can do and the positives and negatives of each option. After they have made a decision on the direction they want to pursue, I show them the way to achieve their goals in an anxiety free way.
How long have you been in the mortgage business? What awards have you won?
I have won President's Club awards at companies I have worked with, however, my best awards I receive are when a satisfied customer refers me to a friend, family member, or colleague. These awards I have "won" throughout my career.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
DON'T WAIT! BUY NOW! Unless you win the Lottery, there is not a better thing to do to enhance your financial position than to buy a home. Besides, owning a home will give you a tremendous sense of pride and community that will make you feel great.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
1.) I have to have a 20% down payment to buy a home - Nonsense! You can buy a home with as little as a 3% down payment. Additionally, some buyers (Veterans) can buy with NO DOWN PAYMENT! 2.) I have to have great credit to get a mortgage - Not always true. A better credit rating will get you a better rate, but there are plenty of loan programs where you can get a mortgage with a credit rating as low as 600. 3.) I will never be able to afford the mortgage payment - When you rent, you are paying your landlord's mortgage. And rates are increasing at an alarming rate. You would be surprised how low a mortgage payment can be compared to rent. In addition, for most people, there are tremendous tax benefits in having a mortgage. Find out the "real" cost of owning vs. renting. Always consult a tax professional to see what your specific circumstances will be.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
I greatly enjoy helping people achieve their housing and financial dreams. Whether it's buying their first house, their dream house, or saving money on their payments to better afford college expenses, home improvements, or saving for retirement. When I know I have helped someone else make their life better, it makes me feel very good.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I really enjoy watching and listening to birds, especially woodpeckers. I'm fortunate that I can experience this right from my own backyard.
