About Rob

I have been in the mortgage business for over 18 years. I got into the business, because I liked the dynamic atmosphere that the industry provided and it also allowed me to help people achieve something that, in many cases, they don't think they can achieve. Buying a home is one of the most important financial decisions anyone can make and I enjoy being able to help people navigate the process.

I graduated from Lynchburg College in Virginia with a bachelor's degree in Economics. I played varsity lacrosse for 4 years and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. My education and experience helps me to evaluate global and local economic trends and their impact on interest rates, so that I can advise my clients on when it is the best time to lock in their rate for their home purchase or refinance.

I currently live in Severna Park, MD with my wife Erin and our son Ashby. We also have a loving Bassett Hound, Hank. In my free time I like to travel, play golf, fish, coach lacrosse and football, and spend time with my family and friends.

What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I work with my clients to figure out what their payment and equity objectives are. I help them to figure out how much they want to put into the transaction and how much they want to spend each month. I can then turn those numbers into a sales price, pre-approve them, and refer them to a great realtor to find their new home. I also make sure that they are connected with the best professionals regarding insurance, legal, accounting, etc. to insure that they are making great financial decisions.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
First time home buyers should talk with a mortgage professional first, so that they understand the costs associated with purchasing a home and the cost associated with paying for the home going forward. In most cases buying a home is less expensive than renting.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
The mortgage industry has changed dramatically over the last 10 years. Most customers find all of the paperwork to be frustrating. I try to set their expectations upfront and gather as much documentation as possible in the beginning to make the rest of the process as smooth as possible.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
Helping people purchase a new home or save money through a refinance on their current home is very rewarding. Helping someone achieve home ownership for the first time is probably the most rewarding though.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
People that know me personally are very surprised at how much I actually know about the mortgage business. I don't talk about it all of the time with my friends, but when they allow me to help me with their mortgage, I usually get many other friends calling me. My outside of work personality is a lot more laid back than when I am helping someone purchase or refinance their home.
