How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the industry for 15 years. I enjoy meeting new people and assisting them to make a smart decision in securing the place they call Home.
Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
My typical buyer is the first time home buyers and smart money managers, as well as 40 to 50 year old clients. First time home buyers are trying to make good decisions and want to know how to budget. My retirement age group is planning for the future and want to know the smart short term goals of retiring with ease.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I ask things such as "What is your comfort zone of payment?", "Have you done a budget", What is your short and long term goals in home ownership?"

I have been in the mortgage industry for 15 years and I have won the Operations Manager of the Year award.
What are the pros and cons of a fixed rate mortgage versus an adjustable rate mortgage (ARM)?
In a fixed rate mortgage, there are fewer risks. But, the ARM allows flexibility when the market is good and there is a short term ownership involved.
Tell us about a specific challenging borrowing situation and how you got the mortgage closed and funded.
An elderly couple had collected credit card debt due to a diagnosis of cancer. He was in remission and having to work 2 jobs to pay their outgoing debts. I was able to do a cashout refinance and help them assess their debts to pay off that would save them the most monthly outgoing and least amount of interest. We saved them over $1200 in monthly savings without using all of the equity in their home.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
My recommendation is to do a budget and determine what your comfort zone of payment is, not what you can get qualified for.
Tell us about a mortgage product that consumers may not be aware of?
Many consumers are not aware of the Homepossible and Homeready programs. Guaranteed Rate's Double Match program is also one that consumers are not familiar with. All are great programs that have many benefits!
How has the mortgage industry changed since you started, and what would you expect in the future?
Since I have joined the mortgage industry, it has become very streamlined and requires the borrower to bearthe burden of proof for approval.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
Customers have difficulty understanding the necessities of so much documentation. The reason is fraud prevention. It is to protect them.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
The top misconceptions are that if they get pre-approved they are done, that all lenders are apples to apples and the timing of the processes. Getting pre-approved is very important but it is not the end of the process. Every lender is not created equally! The mortgage process can be short and sweet but it can also be a bit longer than some people anticipate.
What 2 or 3 mobile apps would you recommend for home buyers or house hunters, and why? What Smart Apps do you recommend your customers use for the house hunting process?
I would recommend Home Depot, Zillow, and Trulia. They are the most popular apps and the most user friendly.

To ensure a smooth mortgage underwriting process, it is very important for a borrower to respond in a timely fashion and provide upfront, honest answers.
Are you active in any local associations or community groups, and at what level? What goals and/or success have you helped these groups achieve?
I am active in many local associations and grounps including Asheville Realtor Boards, Autism Society, Builders Association, Woman’s Banker Association, Homeward Bound and Strong Women of Asheville.
Are you active in any fundraising organizations? What goals and/or success have you helped them achieve?
The local fundraising organizations that I am involved with are Strong Fit Women against Cancer who provide daily needs and a holistic approach to making these women feel great, First Time Home Buyers program to educate before buying, Missions work for the Dominican Republic, Autism awareness, assisting low income alternatives to family members with disabilities.

I am born and raised in Asheville, NC. I am a graduate of AC Reynolds High School and attended East Tennessee State University. One of my children is in college. I also have 2 high schoolers, a middle schooler and a brand new baby boy. I attend Biltmore Church and have also been a personal trainer for years at Ladies Workout of Asheville/HF Training Center.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
The most rewarding part of my job is assisting clients in making educated decisions. I also enjoy experiencing the pride of home ownership that they find.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I love the outdoors and exercise! I also enjoy family outings and making time for one another over good food and laughter.
