About Steve

I started my career as a mortgage loan officer in 1993, after managing a home equity loan department for a suburban Chicago bank directly out of college. Being a mortgage loan expert allows me to work directly with my clients - identifying their needs, finding the best product and delivering customized solutions to a major financial decision. The reward is my clients' loyalty, trust and recommendation of me and my services to their friends, families and associates.

Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
My clients range from first-time homebuyers, to move-up buyers, to long-standing real estate investors adding to their portfolio. Although new home buyers ask the most questions (and rightfully so), everyone wants to know if the product being offered 1) is best for their situation 2) is competitively priced and 3) will be delivered on-time, as-promised and in a professional manner.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
My advice to first-time buyers is to ASK QUESTIONS. Don't be afraid to say, "I don't understand" or "Can you clarify this...". Buying a home is a big deal and taking a mortgage loan is an even bigger commitment. A good, knowledgeable loan officer will take the time to ensure that you're 100% comfortable with the mortgage decisions you make.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
A smooth loan process starts at the loan application. Make sure that your information is accurate and that the documentation requested from you is complete and delivered to the lender in a very timely manner. I get all of the required documents (income, assets, liabilities and collateral) at the point of taking the loan application. A good, proactive start to the loan process is key to ensuring a good experience for all involved.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I'm married with three wonderful children, who are very active in theater, music, art and sports. I've enjoyed coaching my kids (and their friends) in soccer, basketball, baseball and softball. It's great to watch them develop their skills and confidence - and to feel that I had something to do with their successes.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I once jumped out of a perfectly functioning airplane - from 14,000 feet - as a skydiving birthday present with a friend. A big bucket list entry has been checked-off with that one.
