What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
My main objective is to get to know my customers and identify what their key needs and objections are. Listening is the key to this. Taking notes and writing down their thoughts or concerns helps me know how to best match my client with a mortgage.
Often, there are assumptions about the mortgage process. And, by far, there is not a clear understanding as to how our process works.
By asking questions and listening, this usually leads to having the applicable data to best match my client to a mortgage.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
1. They just will not qualify...there can be a litany of reasons why they will not qualify. It is amazing what people come up with as things that they have heard that will prohibit being approved for a mortgage.
2. 20% down is required to buy a house. This is a misconception that is extremely prevalent with first time home buyers. It is as if they have failed because they do not have 20% down. With rates as low as they are, it is often very satisfying to show how many options are available.
3. Assuming that the one bureau that is online and not scored using the FICO scoring method is a true representation of their credit score when we pull all three bureaus.

What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
The most satisfaction I get is seeing the excitement of my clients when they are at the closing table. When my team has provided the utmost in service and care, making sure that this is not positive experience, I get a charge out of attending the closing.
The other thing that provides me satisfaction is getting thank you notes from my customers and realtors. There is nothing better than knowing that someone had such a wonderful experience that they took the time to write a note.
Being able to share these accolades about what my team has done is also a source of satisfaction. So often, our culture is about complaints. I always like to spread the good news and share how my team has completed a successful transaction. This is a team effort and all involved deserve to know what a positive impact they have had.
