About Trip

My name is Trip Miller. I am a husband of 16 years, a father of two beautiful children, and a loan officer with Guaranteed Rate. I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, working on our antique home in Pembroke, MA (c. 1750) and handling loans for my clients. I don't have one specific lending niche: I am honestly knowledgeable in effectively all aspects of Residential Mortgage Lending and when I work with my clients I make 100% sure that you have absolutely the correct loan product, best rate and fees, and all the information needed to successfully navigate from pre-approval to closing, with as little stress as possible. I am looking for lifetime relationships with my clients as their trusted partner and referral source, not only for all things "mortgage," but for anything related to their home and financial well being.

Trip interview Q&A

Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
I would suggest that I do not have a "typical" customer. I honestly have clients from all walks of life who are financing anything from inexpensive condominiums to multi million dollar second homes on Nantucket to investment property portfolios consisting of all multi-family units. I am versed in all products and programs available in today's lending market and am prepared to assist each client's unique & specific scenario.
How has the mortgage industry changed since you started, and what would you expect in the future?
I began my mortgage career in 2006 right before the housing market meltdown. So I personally had little experience with many of the "predatory lending" products and programs that were rampant prior to the meltdown. However, having come through that period and being new to the business during that time I had to work extra hard to survive the downturn in the business as well as to educate myself on all of the nuances of the new lending landscapes that emerged out of the ashes of that crisis. I often say that I am blessed to still be in the business based on my timing and that I am ultimately more skilled and well equipped because of making it through those hard times. The mortgage market is very healthy and I see this trend continuing into the future.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
I believe that for most clients not know where to start or how to start the process of getting a loan is the most difficult part. That coupled with "who" to start the process with. Even the most savvy borrowers probably do not go through the mortgage process that often, and the lack of familiarity with the many, many complexities of the business can create as much confusion and doubt in a person's mind easily. I strive to gain trust and common ground with my clients up front, and honestly encourage them to seek out a Loan Officer that they trust and have a "fit" with. I would suggest that this is as important as Rates & Fees, and that after doing their due diligence they will find that in many cases the Rates & Fees are similar across lenders and ultimately what is most important is reaching the end goal of putting their family into their home as stress-free as possible. I will do that and meet or beat the competition on the Rates and Fees too!
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
My spare time is spent mainly with my wife and two children and their many sports, activities, and hobbies. We like to travel as well, and otherwise I spend time working on our Vintage 1750 New England Cape Style Home, which ALWAYS needs work!
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
By the time I was 23 years old I had been to 47 US States and I am 46 years old now and still have not made it to those other three: Alaska, Hawaii, and North Dakota. Add them to the bucket list.
