About Will

I began my mortgage career in 2003.

When buying my first home, the mortgage process was horrible. This fueled my decision to enter the mortgage field.

Having graduated from LSU in 1998 with a degree in Accounting, my first years were spent with KPMG as a State and Local Tax Specialist. Experience interpreting tax law while an accountant helps me apply mortgage guidelines to the benefit of my clients.

I grew up in New Roads and attended LSU in Baton Rouge. I accepted my first job in New Orleans where I met my wife, Lorie. We have twin boys, Gabriel and Knox and live in Broadmoor, located in New Orleans between the Mid-City and Uptown neighborhoods.

We're big Saints and LSU fans and enjoy spending time in City Park, local restaurants and local festivals.

How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I began my mortgage career in 2003. When buying my first home, the mortgage process was horrible. This fueled my decision to enter the mortgage field.
Tell us about a specific challenging borrowing situation and how you got the mortgage closed and funded.
Marty and Mary Ann, like many others, had visited New Orleans in the past and decided that one day they\'d have their own vacation home in the \"Big Easy\". They took the first step towards making their dream a reality when their agent, Sheri Thompson, found the perfect condo for them during on a special house hunting trip they had made to New Orleans. To verify that they could obtain a home mortgage to finance the condo\'s purchase, Marty and Mary Ann contacted a loan officer, who\'d helped them in the past, for guidance. After waiting for days, their loan officer had yet to provide them the assurance they needed and their prospects of making an offer before leaving New Orleans were in doubt. Unbeknownst to Marty and Mary Ann, their loan officer\'s lack of experience in financing condominiums had placed them at a disadvantage. You see, condominiums present loan officers many rules to assess not applicable for most mortgages. When working with a loan officer who does not have past experience with condos or their exacting rules can lead to missed opportunities in contract negotiations, lost appraisal fees, and failed transactions. Sheri Thompson, sensing that they might lose out to another prospective buyer, recommended that Marty and Mary Ann give me a call. Luckily, my success in structuring mortgages for condominiums over the years allowed me to quickly approve this particular unit for financing, which helped Marty and Mary Ann in their negotiations. You see, Marty and Mary Ann were able to make an offer to purchase the condo before they left New Orleans to travel home, which ensured that no one else could buy their \'home away from home\' in New Orleans they\'d dreamed of owning for so long. Marty and Mary Ann\'s next trip to New Orleans was to sign their loan documents and pick up the keys to their new vacation home in the Garden District. They mentioned how grateful they were for having decided to work with someone like me to navigate the condo mortgage process and how they would recommend their family and friends call me whenever they need a great loan officer.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
Work with a mortgage professional who will take care in ensuring all of your questions are answered. A patient and caring mortgage professional allows you to enjoy the home buying experience.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
You may have a different opinion, but my experience is that my family and friends find that reviewing their initial mortgage disclosures and collecting the documents for underwriting is the most difficult part of the loan process. And they\'re right! My goal is to clearly outline the mortgage product, interest rate and other terms of the mortgage so clearly, that by the time you review your mortgage disclosures, you\'re confident that you understand all of the pertinent information about your mortgage that the multitude of disclosures are much less daunting. Whether you will purchase your first home or refinance a current mortgage to lower your interest rate, you can bank on collecting a fair amount of documents for the underwriting process. But don\'t worry, Guaranteed Rate\'s document requests make clear exactly what you\'ll need and I can help you determine what documents will work and how you can obtain them quickly and easily. Although reviewing disclosures and collecting documents can be a daunting step in the loan process, if you complete this step quickly and completely, the rest of your loan process can be like driving your car down the interstate on \'cruise control\' for the duration of the trip.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
The biggest misconceptions are 1) qualifying for a mortgage is impossible 2) they don't have enough down payment and 3) jumbo loans arenýt available.

My roots have grown in New Orleans over the years. From buying 12 rental units in Mid City, to purchasing our current home in Broadmoor post Katrina, my Family is invested in the City of New Orleans. My wife Lorie, who happens to be a great chef, and I were married in 2007 and were just recently blessed with two beautiful twin boys Knox and Gabriel on December 6, 2011. Lorie and I enjoy supporting the local chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and enjoy participating in everything else that New Orleans and its community has to offer.
