Four Home Projects To Get Ready For SummerMay 25 2012
It's the weekend that marks the beginning of summer – Memorial Day weekend! If you're looking to ready your home for the warm weather this weekend, here are a few "must-do" projects to complete, according to Bob Vila.
1. Check Your Air Conditioning
Now's a good time to check that your air conditioning is working correctly. Make sure you change the filter, check hose connections for leaks and make sure your drain pans are draining freely.
2. Tend To Your Lawn
Now that the warm weather is here, it's time to get your lawn in tip-top shape! During the winter, your soil's PH may have changed, making your lawn more susceptible to weed growth and other issues. Consider reseeding on a regular basis if this is the issue, allowing you to grow a denser, greener lawn.
3. Inspect Your Deck and Patio
During the summer, you seem to live out on your deck and/or patio. Make sure it's safe for you, your family and friends. Check for any warped, loose or splintered boards then remove any leaves and debris that may have accumulated there during the colder months.
4. Ready The Grill
And of course, no Memorial Day weekend would be complete without a meal from your grill! Before prepping the food, make sure your grill is ready to perform at its best. If you have a gas grill, check the burner jets for clogs and obstructions, making sure that gas hoses and connections are sound and secure. For a charcoal grill, clean your grill of any ash or grease residue.
