Four Ways To Save On Home Energy During The Summer
We’re in the heat of the summer and of course with it comes increased home energy bills. Especially if you live in a part of the country that has been affected by the heat wave, you may be feeling the heat every month when paying your bills. To cut costs, follow these four, simple ideas:
1. Adjust the Thermostat
Air conditioning cost a fortune. If you have it running 24/7, you should expect a very large bill. To try to cut your air conditioning costs, gradually increase the thermostat’s temperature three degrees. This alone will save you 20% on your next bill
2. Turn on Ceiling Fans
In comparison to the air conditioner, ceiling fans cost just pennies to run and they can help your air conditioner run more efficiently. If you have them, use them!
3. Adjust Your Habits
Certain household items such as a dishwasher, washer or dryer can heat up your home significantly when they’re run. Consider using them during the early morning or late evening when it’s cooler to minimize their effect on your cooling bills.
4. Open and Close Your Windows
Keep track of the hourly local temperature and determine what time the outside temperature will rise above your desired indoor temperature. Open your windows early in the morning and close them until that specific time. Then reopen your windows in the late evening to let in the cooler night air.
