Host a New Year’s Eve soiree at your home

Throwing a party for New Year’s Eve can seem like a daunting task, but it’s easier than you think. There are plenty of ways to be a great host with festive DIY décor, sparkling details, and decadent food and cocktails. Take a look at ways to throw a night to remember!

Add sparkle everywhere.

Everyone loves glitter and a good photo op on New Year’s Eve, so create a backdrop for people to take pictures against. Purchase glitter paper from a craft store and find a bare wall to create the backdrop. Place a large plate on glitter paper, and use the plate to trace a circle. Cut out the circle, then use double-stick tape to attach each circle to your wall. Repeat with as many colors as you like.

There are also subtle ways to add glitter all around your home. Deck glassware with glitter tape, which is available at craft stores. Cut the tape into the shape of your choice, peel the backing, then stick to the glasses. After the party, just remove the tape and wash normally. Want to take sparkle to the next level? Add it your champagne bottles. Turn each bottle upside down and coat with spray adhesive. Cover with glitter, then let dry.

Or decorate with black, gold and white.

If glitter isn’t your thing, your home can look just as festive using these three colors. Hang black, gold and white streamers from your wall. Hang balloons from your ceiling and curl the ends. You can also elevate the look by adding detail to your food and drink table. Tie black ribbon around serving trays, and add tuxedo bowties to champagne glasses. Finish the look by adding confetti, ornaments or noisemakers in this color family.

Reuse holiday décor.

There’s no need to buy decorations when you have extras from the holidays, including wrapping paper, tissue paper and gift tags. Use sparkling wrapping paper to create an unconventional tablecloth. Since it will be thrown away the next day, you don’t have to worry about food or drinks being spilled on it.  Gift tags can also serve as place cards for the table. Tie metallic ribbon around each tag to give the place cards a festive touch. Lastly, use white tissue paper embossed with gold flecks to embellish your serving trays. Just cut the paper onto the trays, and add your drinks.

Don’t stress over the food and drink.

Since New Year’s Eve parties generally start later, you don’t need to provide a full meal for your guests. Instead, provide simple appetizers, desserts and a cheese tray. You can also encourage everyone to bring ingredients for their favorite cocktail. That way, there will be a variety of drinks, and it will be less expensive on your end.
