Tell us about a specific challenging borrowing situation and how you got the mortgage closed and funded.
In my 26 years of getting mortgages approved and closed there is always the next challenging borrower situation around the corner. I call it getting the square peg (my customer) through the round hole (the mortgage process). Whether it's the borrowers credit report that needs to be reviewed and corrected, Income variables including Tax Returns that most borrowers don't understand how are prepared or the cash needed to buy a home including great options or solutions to these issues, I go after the mortgage preapproval with an "all aspects tackled" approach. Purchases, Refinances, Investment Properties, Divorce, Retirement, Co Buyers, Reverse Mortgages, Foreign National Buyers... bring it on because I have handled aspects of most all scenarios.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
Fear is the most difficult part of the process. Call me as early as possible to get me all of your information. No judgement, no "can't do". Only this is where you are and this is what we need to get together. Some of my customers are as fast as 3 weeks from calling me to closing and some borrowers can be a 1 or 2 year process to get their Credit, Income and Cash to together to close but guess what? They do close and they close on time. It's really about having a proactive attitude to get it accomplished.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
Build yourself a solid transaction team. I find that when the realtor, mortgage originator and title company/closer are in team it takes lots of the misfires out of the equation. I am all about team to push the process into a successful transaction. Ask your originator to educate you. Your mortgage professional should spend time investing in you and your success in the process.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
When I am at the closing or a couple of days after the closing and get that customer who sheds those happy tears, worked through many tough circumstances after a life event that set them back, are repeat customers again or referrals from them, have rebuilt their homes after Hurricane Andrew or Wilma, have been through Bankruptcies, short sales or foreclosures and who are excited about giving me their 10 Feedback on how happy they are that they have their home, then it makes it all worthwhile.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I am a foodie and nature lover. I am up for any adventure like diving, fishing and playing poker with my friends. We also get together for movie nights and my group is always up to big laughs.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I talk in metaphors, sometimes I talk too fast when I get in solution mode and like to crack jokes at the end of the closing table. I tell my customers if I get too excited, just interrupt me and I will auto correct. My goal for my closings is for it to be an exciting fun event.
