About Peter

I began my mortgage career in 1987 after my mother in law purchased her first home. I witnessed how much joy she felt when her loan officer told her she was approved, and thought to myself that's a great way to affect a person's life. I left the restaurant business and went to work for that loan officer's company 30 days later. Customer service, communication and integrity have been the path to my success. I have won customer service and production awards, and it's all attributable to building strong relationships in the real estate community, and providing great service consistently. I take care of people. I attended the University of Massachusetts, where I earned my bachelor's degree and played four years of lacrosse. My wife an I are married 30 years and we have 3 children. We met at UMass.

How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I began my mortgage career in 1987 because I wanted to be involved in finance, along with a desire to help other people improve their lives. I thought what better way than to assist with most agree to be a consumer’s largest financial transaction.
Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
I work with all types of customers, from first time home buyers, to investors that own multiple properties. People naturally want to make sure they are receiving a very competitive interest rate at a low cost, but they are also looking for experience and guidance. I take the time to make sure my customers understand everything that is occurring during every step in the process.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
My advice to a first time home buyer is to be sure you are buying within your means. Buying a home is a fantastic accomplishment, but it should never be at the expense of your overall quality of life.
How has the mortgage industry changed since you started, and what would you expect in the future?
From the late ‘80s to today I have seen many changes, but the most significant of them has to be technology. A fax machine was a novelty when I started. Today the industry has become much more regulated and to an extent more complicated. I expect that technology will continue to change our industry in how you can obtain a mortgage, but the standards to qualify for a mortgage will largely remain the same.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
I believe most customers find the documentation required to obtain a mortgage as the most difficult for them. Itýs in this area that I provide the greatest service because I take the time to explain why something is necessary. Communication is by far the most important aspect to help the consumer through this process.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
I feel that it’s my job to insure a smooth mortgage and underwriting process. This begins generally before a contract is ever signed during the initial interview and pre-approval stage. It’s at this time I feel like I’m more of a mortgage consultant giving advice based on the customer’s specific situation on exactly what will be required to obtain the mortgage.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I have a wife of 30 years and 3 children a daughter and two sons. We enjoy spending lots of time together especially in Wisconsin during the summer at the family lake house. We enjoy boating and all the water activities that go along with that. I also enjoy coaching youth lacrosse and watching my kids perform in all their activities.
