About John

I started in the mortgage industry in 1991 and have been helping families purchase their dream homes ever since. I pride myself on taking the mystery out of residential mortgages and educating my clients on the entire loan process. Born and raised in Riverside, IL, I grew up working every summer as a caddy and developed my ""love/hate"" affair with the game of golf. I also learned at an early age how to interact and communicate with different types of people and personalities, which I have been using throughout my mortgage career.

Outside of the office, I spend most of my time with my wife and kids and dog Gordy. I enjoy swimming and golf in the summer and platform tennis in the winter, but with a ""baker's dozen-sized"" family, there is always an occasion to spend time with family.

How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage industry for 20+ years and was inspired by the prospect of owning my own home one day.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
I would recommend that all new or first time home buyers speak with a Mortgage Specialist before they do anything else in the home buying process. It is imperative that we review the client's credit history and run each loan through the Automated Underwriting System so the we can issue a Pre-Approval. By taking this step, every client can feel confident about their new home purchase.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
The top 3 misconceptions people have about the loan process are 1). You need 20% down payment in order to buy a home. This is completely false as we have loans that require as little as 3% down payment. 2). You have to have 800 credit scores. Although it is always important and helpful to have excellent credit scores, we do have loan options for individuals that have some credit blemishes. We can even educate clients on how to increase their credit scores in order to improve the interest rates available. And 3). It is difficult to get a mortgage. The mortgage industry has been going through many changes over the past years but, no, it is not difficult to get a loan. We ask the client to provide proof of income, debt and credit and we can render a decision very quickly.
Are you active in any local associations or community groups, and at what level? What goals and/or success have you helped these groups achieve?
I am currently an active Board Member of the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I have a fear of blue cheese.
